Gitzo GH3382QD overview

  • 1Description

The Gitzo GH3382QD Series 3 Center Ball Head is an Arca-type compatible head that is an ideal match for Mountaineer Series 2 and 3 tripods. It stands 5" high, holds up to 40 lb and weighs 1.7 lb. The head has a separate lock for the 360° panning and another to control the movement of the ball. A tungsten disulfide coating on the ball helps keep the ball movement smooth and minimizes stick-slip. A screw-knob lock tightens down on the included quick-release plate and a bubble level helps you maintain straight horizons in your images. To allow for precise adjustments, a friction control dial is integrated into the large locking knob.

    Gitzo GH3382QD reviews

GH3382QD Series 3 Center Ball Head is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Sturdy Ball Head works great, easy to setup and use. the clamp are tight and holds the camera or lens very still

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent build, could have better friction adjustment I bought this to replace a well respected head that just wasn't cutting it for me. The GH3382QD is almost perfect! Plusses: build quality, finish, excellent clamp, smooth ball motion, positive ball lock, very smooth pano rotation, solid pano lock, and the level on the clamp is visible and useful. Minuses: friction control tends to loosen, pano scale indicator is useless, inadequate documentation. I'm using this head on aGT3541XLS Systematic tripod, with various Canon DSLRs and a wide range of lenses up to the 500 f/4L (II) with various extenders. The friction control and ball lock work excellently, except that I've got to pay attention to the friction because it tends to change when the ball's repeatedly locked. There seems to be too much interplay between the friction and lock knobs. I'd read about this in reviews, but decided to give it a go. This isn't a show-stopper; just something to be aware of. I suspect that Gitzo designed this to work a certain way, and documenting how it's supposed to work would be great (I'm going to call Gitzo). But wow! I've got other high-end "pro" ball heads, and so far this one's the best. I love the solid clamp and positive ball and pano locks. Panning motion is very smooth. The head feels great, and I don't hesitate to recommend it. I also like the universal Arca Swiss compatible plate that comes with the head. It's made beautifully and clamps well to all of my cameras (although I've got L-brackets for most of them). Were it not for the drifting friction issue, I'd give this head 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice ball head After 10 years of using a Benro B1 ball head, I upgraded to this Gitzo. Big improvement. The Benro had creep, no creep with the Gitzo.
