Varos Pro M Multi-Function Flash Shoe Umbrella Holder is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Mid-Range Flash Shoe Umbrella Holder One of my biggest complaints with flash shoe holders is the umbrella holder screw often crimps or crushes the umbrella shaft. That's why I love these. There is a rounded end piece that makes contact with the umbrella shaft without damaging it. Phottix has put a lot of thought into these holders. All of the clamps are easy to tighten down. That was my complaint about the Westcott ones, which have a tiny screw that you can't tighten enough. The carabiner is kind of cheap, but good enough to hook my power pack to. Since it's not a crucial part of the holder, it doesn't bother me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from No damage to umbrella shaft I have the Manfrotto 026 umbrella holders. They are so strong they will outlast me. The problem with them is that the umbrella shaft holder screw digs into the umbrella shaft and I fear it will damage the shaft. For this reason I bought this and I am happy to report that it does not mark the umbrella shaft anymore. Construction is sturdy and umbrella mount is angled which is great directing light to fall on the centre of the umbrella. Tilting mechanism is spring loaded with steps which communicates a lot of confidence. I haven't used it with my big 7' umbrella yet but I am pretty sure it will be fine. Not sure if the hot shoe holder will be used. I am using the Manfrotto hotshoe adapter. It is simple and light and much stronger and holds the flash firmer than I expect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This vs Lite-Tite? Immediately replaced the hot shoe with a Nikon unit. I like that it has the push knob lock for the part that goes onto the light stand. The tilting ratchet lock is nice but limits the angles you can use. Favorite between this and the Manfrotto Lite-Tite (my go to umbrella holder)? Really is a toss up. This has more little features. Lite-Tite has better handle, no ratchet, and is black in color. Both are excellent and should satisfy you. Both are much better than those plastic ones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The ABSOLUTE BEST! I have been using a variety of umbrella swivels for over 15 years. This is the first one that addresses every issue. First is the the tilt mechanism that is super secure but loosens safely for easy adjustment. Second, large knobs. Great secure control even with gloves. Third, a quick release that permits secure attachment to the light stand. It doesn't make a tight attachment but it keeps it from falling off while assembling. Fourth, Secure umbrella clamp that has a curved pad to prevent crushing of the umbrella shaft. Fifth, a carabiner that permits attachment of a battery pack or other accessory. Sixth, the aluminum finish makes them easily visible in a dark gear bag. Seventh, solid quality construction that will last forever. All this goodness for a price that others deliver mediocre products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seems very durable After forty plus years in the photography business I look for ways to simplify and lighten the load. After researching a number of umbrella holders I bought two of these to run some tests with my Canon speed lights. They appear to be exceptionally durable and well engineered, and after a few tests I ended up using them successfully on an editorial shoot. I plan to use them as often as possible for simple set ups that don't require a lot of watt seconds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Clear Winner! I have three or four old flash shoe umbrella holders and they're just awful. I decided to purchase a new set and agonized over the many choices. I was set to buy the Manfrottos?which look elegant?until I read the reviews warning about fit on some stands. I finally settled on the Varos Pro M and am delighted with them. Very strong and very well designed, these silver umbrella holders have numerous features. They use an adjustable cold shoe that adapts to any size shoe and fits firmly and securely. The umbrella opening is slanted so that your flash head points into the umbrella's center. The screw that secures the umbrella shaft features a concave shoe so that your umbrella shafts don't get pinched. The shoe can be mounted on top or on the side, for multiple angle options. The mounting screw for your stands also has a quick release for double security. I can't quite figure out how it works, but it does ease one's mind. Finally, the tilting mechanism is ratcheted, so when you settle on an angle, it's secure and won't slip. At first I wasn't sure about the silver color?most umbrella holders are black, but now that I have them on stands with umbrellas, they're really nice looking. If cosmetics of such a utilitarian item concerns you, these look cool. I recommend them highly. After many frustrating years, these work great and make life much easier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality equipment The Phottix Varos Pro M Multi-Function Flash Shoe Umbrella Holder is massive overkill and I should add I like it that way. The construction is all aluminum other than molded plastic handles on knobs. Phottix even includes small carabineer so the mount and associated light stand can be tied down. In my application supporting Speedlites and relatively small umbrellas this unit will easily outlast me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rock Solid Umbrella Holder I've researched a variety of umbrella holders and came across the Phottix Varos Pro series. The Phottix accommodates 7mm-10mm umbrellas for use with a variety of umbrella brands. The teardrop shaped 8 degree angled slot centers flash output to the center of the umbrella. There is an elongated curved insert over the umbrella clamp to mate the umbrella shaft to ensure maximum tension and prevents damage. Other umbrella holders just have bolt head contact against the umbrella shaft which nicks and dents umbrella shafts. The tilting mechanism is notched and supports a lot of weight even at 180 degrees. There is a unique release button to keep bottom lug secured. There is a hanging hole with carabiner for counter weights, wire ties, battery packs, etc. The anodized aluminum cold shoe is adjustable and rotatable. The finish is bead blasted cast aluminum and a little reflective not as smooth or matte as the product photos. I wish this comes in matte black. This is one of the best designs at a reasonable price. One of the best all metal umbrella holders.
