Nice Light For Close-up Video

I ordered the 230 for close range video use. I tested it on the dance floor for a birthday party and it performed exactly as I expected. The light doesn't offer the ability to produce a warm light absent the filter that comes with the light. My only thought about it was loss or breakage. The straight white light can be harsh, but when the video is moved into Premier that color can be warmed. Since I also shoot stills, I will answer someone's inevitable question Can it replace a flash? Absolutely not. Flash if used correctly, can carry a long ways. This light doesn't come close to matching that.

I love this light. It really brightens things up and is very handy to slip into my pocket to use as needed. I do wish it had a battery power indicator, though. I have two of these lights. The newest one lasts about 55 minutes with a full battery, and the older one lasts 45 minutes. There is no indication the battery is low. Bright, then OUT. Extra battery might be nice.

You could use the Vidpro Ultra-Slim LED-230 On-Camera Video Lighting Kit BH #VILED230 instead of a flash, but it has far less power so you would have to compensate with more ISO.

VidPro does not list any specific functions for the USB Port. However there are reports from customers who have successfully used it to power other items off of that connection.
