Fujifilm 35mm f/2.0 overview

  • 1Description

Offering a normal perspective in a compact package, the black XF 35mm f/2 R WR Lens from Fujifilm is optimized for use on X-series cameras with APS-C format sensors, producing a 35mm equivalent focal length of 53mm. Along with this, it has a fast f/2 maximum aperture, useful for creating images with a shallow depth-of-field and working in low-light conditions. Ensuring optimal image quality is a 9 element in 6 group design that incorporates two ED and two aspherical elements that work to minimize aberrations and distortion for crisp, clean imagery. Also, the lens has the Nano-GI coating which dramatically limits the effects of ghosting and flare.

For operation, the lens is equipped with a physical aperture ring for tactile control when desired. It also has a fast internally focusing AF system that can lock onto a subject in just 0.08 seconds. Further benefitting usage is a weather-resistant construction with eight seals throughout the lens barrel. Additionally, a rounded 9-blade diaphragm produces pleasing out-of-focus elements.

Providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 53mm, this prime lens provides a normal perspective that is useful in a wide variety of situations.
Fast f/2 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and also offers greater control over focus when working with shallow depth of field or selective focus techniques.
The 9-element-in-6-group design includes two extra-low dispersion and two aspherical elements to minimize chromatic aberrations and distortions for increased clarity and sharpness.
The autofocus system delivers smooth, near-silent performance that can acquire focus as quickly as 0.08 sec.
A Nano-GI coating has been applied to the lens for controlling ghosting and flare, and greater image clarity.
Eight weather seals are placed about the lens barrel to protect against dust, moisture, and temperatures as low as 14°F.
Nine rounded diaphragm blades contribute to a pleasing out-of-focus quality when working with selective focus or shallow depth of field techniques.
Minimum working distance of 13" allows shooters to get close to their subjects.

    Fujifilm 35mm f/2.0 reviews

XF 35mm f/2 R WR Lens (Black) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 234.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reminds me of my Sumicron 50 This lens is compact, beautifully made, and renders a delightful image both in the sharp and out of focus areas. Good microcontrast renders fine detail well. Focusing is definitely faster than the 35 f1.4. The look overall is different than the latter lens possibly due to increased sharpness. Handling is superior to the 1.4 and manual focusing is also superior due to good damping yielding a better tactile experience; further, the aperture ring is usefully more resistant giving both a more confident feel and less likelihood of unintentional change. Overall, a joy to use and renders outstanding results. I would not hesitate to have this as my only Fujifilm 50 mm (equiv) lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Nice Little Lens I got this lens for times when I want something small and quiet, which this lens is both. I have the 35/1.4, which I really like, but the front of this 35/2.0 does not move in and out, and doesn't make any noise when focusing. With the camera on electronic shutter the combination is silent. The included lens hood is a nice size, and I like the way the lens caps fits inside of the hood. For times when I'm carrying more than 1 lens I might prefer the 35/1.4, but for times when I want just a very compact single-lens set up that doesn't make any noise, this little 35/2.0 is great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lens I love this lens. At 53mm equivalent, it is perfect for my needs. It is my first lens for the X-T2 and only lens so far. There are a few times I wish I could zoom out just slightly, but the opposite is true where I could zoom closer if I could. Really just about right overall for a one lens system. Very sharp lens and fast focus. No problems on low light either. Overall very impressed. It is small enough too. Not as small as the 18mm or the 27mm but small enough that my camera is compact to carry around all day. May go for the 10-24 for a second lens but may wait to finally get a macro when it comes out this year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly beautiful results from an affordable lens A relatively fast 50mm equivalent prime is the first lens one should buy when adopting a new camera system, and I needed a water-resistant lens for my street work, so the 35mm f/2.0 WR was the natural first lens to pair with my new XT-2. The lens focuses quickly and has a delightful shallow DOF that renders close range people shots in a very pleasing way. I have been impressed with the solid feel and obvious quality, and would happily recommend it to others.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Oh, so close This is a quality of build that has to be handled to be believed. The aperture ring is just right, better than any of my other Fuji lenses and the size is very welcome. I bought this because I found it to be exceptional for my Infra Red use, which is to say that it is good at all aperture up to F11 with no hot-spots visible. I returned my copy however because as good as the lens is, the right top corner was severely poor at the extreme edge and even F11 did not give me sharp enough corners for landscape use. Perhaps my copy was a defective sample? Some people have said that poor extreme corners are typical of this lens. I will buy another one soon and see if it is better - mine was not acceptable for my expectations, but wow what a fabulous lens in every other way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A quick lens Bought this lens for the weather sealing, but the autofocus speed is what got me. It's so fast! On the X-T20, set the AF mode to the largest zone, put the zone over the PDAF area, and and snap away. Whatever you shoot, something in the frame will always be in focus, and usually my intended subject, neither of which is the case with my 23mm f/1.4 or 27mm f/2.8. This lens is just pleasant to use. The aperture ring is tighter and clicker compared to my non-WR lenses, and the focus motor is much quieter even compared to the 18-55. If only it is f/1.4... but if your purpose if capturing fleeting moments on the street, regardless of the weather, I would put this above the f/1.4 version.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressed First Fuji lens I've ever used and owned I read all the overwhelming positive reviews about this lens and they were correct! Its a sweet little lens no question... The way it renders, the bokeh is nice, the detail is eye popping that it picks up.. I mean you can see texture of a surface that I photographed and don't have to zoom in at all to see it on screen,, impressive! Super fast and quite AF. Aperture ring its really with 1/3 stop clicks... The whole lens is just super smooth and fun to shoot with and the results are awesome. Its a winner not question..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great WR complement to the X-T1. A remarkable standard prime, especially at this price point. It provides a complete WR package when mated to the X-T1. It stays on my camera 80% of the time. Fuji quality is evident in the build quality, and its compact size and lightweight more than offset the somewhat slower lens speed. In particular, I am very pleased with the edge-to-edge sharpness and fast focusing, I also get very good bokeh effect, which is important to me on a prime lens. The only aspect of this lens that bothered me initially is the tapered shape; it still looks a little strange, but I am getting used to it. Perhaps this is one of those form follows function things. Overall, this is a great value in a prime lens.
