Celestron 93665 overview

  • 1Description

Designed for their NexStar 6/8SE and Evolution single-fork alt-az mounts, Celestron's EQ Wedge enables beginner and intermediate users to do long-exposure astrophotography and autoguiding by tilting the telescope's azimuth into an equatorial platform allowing it to track an arc around the polar axis. Alt-Az tracking keeps objects centered, but a long enough exposure will reveal they rotate in the field of view. Adding a wedge allows the mount to track equatorially, eliminating field rotation. It features simple installation procedures, tool-less operation, a latitude adjustment screw with easy-to-read scale, and an integrated bubble level.

    Celestron 93665 reviews

EQ Wedge for NexStar 6/8SE Evolution Telescopes is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beware NexStar 6SE owners This is an extremely well made wedge, however the supplied bolts are too long for the NexStar 6SE, and screwing them all the way into the base of the scope mount limits azimuth rotation to around 120 degrees, meaning you can't align or see all the stars. A side effect of this is that you can (as I did) strip your azimuth gears and ruin your scope's mount trying to rotate too far. There is nothing supplied with the wedge to lead you to believe this is an issue until it's too late. It's not supplied with an addendum for the 6SE, and it doesn't come with any washers to limit the length of the bolts. Celestron thankfully is repairing my scope under warranty, but I wouldn't have had to go through this if they printed an addendum to the manual or included washers. It's a shame, otherwise this seems like a very decent wedge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Good!!.but important information for celestron 6se I bought this wedge for celestron 6se. good weight and quality, but important thing! the mounting bolt probably causing damage to the drive base. because bolt is longer for 6se base.. so please do not screw too much. Please keep in mind. otherthing is good .. so that i gave 5 star.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well worth $300 Solid, well built product that has exceeded all of my expectations. Far better than the older Meade equatorial wedge it replaced. So far, I have successfully used it with two telescopes, one that weighs significantly more than the specified maximum weight, not that I suggest anyone do that! If you had trouble setting this equatorial wedge up, you probably didn't read the provided instructions first. For example, loosen screws as necessary before adjusting for latitude using the provided hex wrenches and properly re-tighten them afterwards.
