RODE NTG3B Moisture-Resistant Shotgun Microphone (Black)

Capture broadcast-quality sound indoors or outside for your next indie film, TV shoot, or documentary project with the black Rode NTG3B moisture-resistant shotgun microphone. Professional-level features such as low-noise circuitry, upgraded immunity to radio-frequency interference, and minimal handling noise reduce the need to repair and restore audio in postproduction.

The NTG3B's high sensitivity allows it to produce strong output levels without having to apply extreme gain at your mic preamp. Sonically, the NTG3B delivers consistently clear sound due in part to its gentle rise in high frequencies and its rumble-reducing attenuation of low bass frequencies. Its switch- and dial-free design lets you set up quickly and focus on the sound instead of fiddling with various mic settings. The solid brass housing is both durable and lightweight, and its anti-glare finish prevents reflections in the shot.

Designed to Withstand Adverse Environmental Conditions
When your work takes you outdoors, you're bound to encounter humidity and condensation, which can cause many mics to fail. The NTG3B's RF bias technology makes it almost completely resistant to moisture, allowing you to reliably capture high-quality audio in normal and adverse environmental conditions. It also includes a weatherproof aluminum storage cylinder for maximum protection during travel.
Broadcast-Quality Sound
The NTG3B was engineered for broadcast-quality sound, enhanced immunity to RF (radio frequency) interference, and low handling noise. Plus, its balanced output allows longer cable runs than most camera-mount shotgun microphones.

The combination of the NTG3B's 10" long body and supercardioid polar pattern yields focused on-axis directionality with maximum rejection behind the mic. Its low self-noise of 13 dBA and highly sensitive condenser element communicate detailed audio unburdened by the hiss that plagues many low-cost microphones.
Phantom Powered
Thanks to its 3-pin XLR output and compliance with 44 to 52 VDC phantom power, the NTG3B is compatible with a variety of handheld audio recorders, field recorders, and mixer adapters, as well as built-in preamps on many camcorders and cinema cameras.
Ideal for Boompole Mounting
The NTG3B includes a mic clip for easy placement on a mic stand or boompole. Alternatively, mount the NTG3B in the Rode SMR-4 shockmount (available separately) to impede the transfer of vibrations between your boompole and the mic.
Windscreen Minimizes Wind Noise
The NTG3B has a foam windscreen to reduce unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners. For maximum reduction of handling noise and wind noise in indoor or outdoor environments, consider the Rode Blimp furry windshield and shockmount suspension system (available separately).

Rycote Super-Shield Kit for Shotgun Mics (Medium)

The medium Super-Shield Kit for Shotgun Mics from Rycote is a complete windshield and shock mounting system for shotgun microphones 20-25cm in length. The kit contains the Super-Shield Suspension which provides your microphone isolation from shocks and vibrations, the Super-Shield Windshield which provides wind-noise reduction with minimal high-frequency loss, and the Windjammer, a high-quality synthetic fur cover which provides protection against extreme wind noise.

The Super-Shield Suspension features patented Lyre technology, which provides your microphone isolation from shocks and vibrations without the use of rubbers or elastic. The chassis fits microphones 19mm (3/4") to 25mm (1") in diameter, using two snap-in, pinch-release Lyre suspensions that can be used in any of six positions to achieve the optimal balance and fit. The suspension comes with an 18" (450mm) high flexibility microphone cable.

Made up of two lightweight, durable baskets made from flexible grey plastic netting with a screening material attached, the Super-Shield Windshield connects to the Super-Shield Suspension. The windshield completely surrounds and creates a still volume of air around the microphone, which is designed to provide wind-noise reduction, with minimal high-frequency loss.

The Super-Shield Windjammer is a synthetic fur cover which provides another layer of protection to be used to combat extreme wind noise. Like the Super-Shield Windshield, it is designed to protect from wind without substantial high-frequency loss.

This is my first shotgun mic (i typically do music recording and mixing but am venturing into short film audio). It sounded great. Very directional and made the audio super easy to work with when mixing. Seems super durable and i love the silver finish. Very stylish and solid sounding mic!

NTG3 is the best!

question

What's the difference between the NTG3 & the NTG8? And which is better??
Asked by: Ryan
The NTG3 and NTG8 are similar in internal components and both offer great sound quality. The difference in the mics is the length of the interference tube. The NTG8 being a longer mic at 22 vs the NTG3 at 10 inches. The longer tube is directly related to the directionality in capture for use in applications where a tight pickup pattern or recording from a distance is required.

Is this Mic compatible with the Canon G40?
Asked by: Trey
Hello Trey, unfortunately, you need 48v phantom power to operate the NTG3. It doesn't appear the G40 provides that. I recommend the Rode NTG2 or 4+ as they have power in the microphone.

No ... this is an XLR mic requiring phantom power. You would need an XLR adapter with Phantom Power.

How does the NTG3 work as a handheld interview ...

How does the NTG3 work as a handheld interview mic out on the field?
Asked by: Anonymous
The short answer here is, not typically. I say this because the NTG3 is a very directional, supercardioid microphone. What this means is, it is designed more for isolating at various distances and not so much for direct, close audio. If you do use this microphone in tight you can also hear variations in the volume and sound. Handling noise would also be an issue.

I lost my mic foam , I was looking for something to help me with my room echo , any ideas
Asked by: Mohammed
For a replacement foam windscreen that will fit on the RODE NTG3B Shotgun Microphones, you can use the Auray WSF-2018 Foam Windscreen for Shotgun Microphones (B&H # AUWSF2018). To cut down on room echo, we offer a selection of acoustic treatments like absorption panels and enclosures. You may also be able to use a reflection filter, depending on how the mic will be used. Please feel free to contact us directly by phone or through live chat and we can help you to find the best options for your specific application.

How to power with rhode go

How to power with rhode go
Asked by: Ryan
The NTG3 requires 48 volt phantom power to operate. Since the Rode Wireless Go transmitter does not provide the required power, you will need to place a battery powered phantom power supply inbetween the mic and transmitter. Here is an option from PSC: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/577469-REG/PSC_FPSC0001_48_PHantom_Single.html/overview.
