SHAPE FS5BASE Overview

Mount your Sony PXW-FS5 or PXW-FS5M2 camera on a tripod or shoulder rig using this Baseplate with 15mm Rods from SHAPE. The baseplate kit includes a baseplate for the Sony PXW-FS5 or PXW-FS5M2 and two 15mm rods that measure 10" in length.

The durable baseplate features 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threads on the bottom for mounting on a tripod or rig, and the plate features 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 captive camera mounting screws for securing your camera to the baseplate. Rubber pads on the top of the camera plate prevent your camera from scratches, as well as preventing twisting.

Multiple 1/4"-20 threads on the side of the baseplate allow you to mount additional accessories, and two threads on the front can be used to install a separately available lens support bracket. The baseplate also features a 15mm rod block to mount your camera onto a 15mm LWS rod system. The two 10" 15mm rods are secured in the block with locking levers.

The Sony PXW-FS5 or FS5M2 mounts onto the camera plate with 3/8"-16 and 1/4"-20 screws
Multiple 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threads on the baseplate bottom are for mounting on a tripod or rig
The 15mm LWS rod block secures the two included 10" 15mm rods
Rubber pads at the top of the base protect and secure your camera
1/4"-20 threads on the sides and front can be used for additional accessories such as a lens support
Rubber padding on the camera plate protects the camera from scratching and twisting

Great Inexpensive Rig

For the money it’s hard to beat. Baseplate is sturdy and rods that come with it are adequate. My main use is for mounting a follow focus and lens support. It’s also relatively light weigh and has minimal bulk so hand hold and run & gun can still be done.

Great companion accessory for the Sony FS5

While the FS5 is a great camera its weak point is the lens mount. Particularly when using either cinema style lenses or larger E mount lenses, this unit is a must. Without it you run the risk of having the weight of the lens cracking the mount off the camera front. The bigger lenses need added support from a rail system to get the stress off the lens mount. Understand that even with the lens properly supported you have to be careful . I never transport the FS5 with a lens attached. I have read of horror stories where owners have done this only to find when they took the camera out of their bags the lens fractured the lens mount off the camera front. And yes, Sony will not fix this damage so you have $5600 of junk on your hands. Buy this unit and properly support the lens to the camera. Small investment to make given the price of the camera body

What mounts are on the bottom of this baseplate? Also, will this fit on the Sony FS7?

There's four 1/4-20 and two 3/8-16 threaded holes under the baseplate. Also, the baseplate is designed for the Sony FS5, it's not compatible for the Sony FS7 because the camera has not the same optical center as the Sony FS5.
