Nikon WT-6A Reviews

I’m embarrassed for Nikon

I ordered the WT-6 for use with the D5 to be able to send out images on the fly. I figured for $700 that it would at least deliver the functionality that most cameras, even entry-level, have built-in nowadays. I was terribly mistaken. Setup is highly involved and complicated, and offers very little in the way of ease of use and functionality. On top of this, the SINGLE feature I needed it for (viewing and downloading images to my phone to send out while away from the computer) was completely nonexistent. I could view images on iPhone, but nowhere does it allow you to save the full size image, only a terribly low res copy that is undeliverable by any standard. And no option to send the image anywhere else for you to download. How does Nikon think this is an acceptable wireless product to sell when there are cameras for less than $700 that have exponentially better wireless functionality built-in? It has no Bluetooth abilities, no accompanying app for devices, no way to simply save images to a device (like literally any other camera from the last 4 years has built-in). The only use I can imagine for this is if you are a photographer for a wire service and you have a dedicated server that is already setup for you to upload images to. But other than that, I am confident that this is a waste of money. It’s forgivable that the D5 doesn’t have WiFi/Bluetooth capabilities built-in, but to then sell a wireless add-on for this price tag that cannot even compete with the basic capabilities of a Canon Rebel is pretty shameful.

Save your money

I bought the WT-6 in hopes of transferring images in near real time from my D5 to my laptop (PC). Not only is this thing a royal pain to set up - it doesn't work as advertised. I contacted Nikon but, of course, Nikon is too busy to solve customers problems (not the first time I was completely ignored)! Buy a CamRanger instead - they are cheaper and really work great!

question

This accessory serves to transmit photos to a cell phone android?
Asked by: alejandro i.
It is designed to be used with the D5 DSLR, and the WT-6A Wireless Transmitter from Nikon in order to enhance the camera's connectivity capabilities. It is not made for just any camera and would be overkill if you just wanted to transfer to an android smartphone.
