Phottix Odin II Transmitter Overview

Realize the full potential of your flash setup by adding wireless triggering and control with the Phottix Odin II TTL Flash Trigger Transmitter. Compatible with Nikon's i-TTL flash system and equipped with a 2.4 GHz radio transmission system, the Odin II will communicate and trigger receivers or radio-capable flash units at distances up to 328'. To further benefit users, it can be used in a multi-system setup that involve Odin TTL, Strato, and Strato II receivers as well as Mitros+, Indra360, and Indra 500 lights. A major improvement over the previous model is an expansion of channels and the introduction of the Digital ID which gives further control over channels 5-32 to eliminate interference with other systems.

Embracing TTL communication between the camera and flash, automatic exposures can easily be made and more advanced users can take advantage of manual power and zoom control to dial in the exact look they need. Using the five groups, users can also control different groups and flashes with varying settings as well as mix and match TTL and manual units. All of this is easily accessed via the large LCD screen along with direct access buttons for the groups and a rotary dial for quickly adjusting settings.

Additional features include both high-speed sync for TTL flashes as well as the proprietary OverDrive Sync mode for manual studio strobes, both of which allow users to work at shutter speeds up to 1/8000 second. Also, users will be able to remotely control the modeling light of their Indra TTL strobes as well as use an AF assist light when needed. And, it has a mini-USB port for firmware updates.

TTL information transmission is possible with Odin TTL receiver, Mitros+ flash, and Indra360/500 TTL lights while manual triggering is possible with Strato and Strato II receivers

Phottix Odin II Transmitter Reviews

Seems to work great as a trigger but lacking in other areas

I tested it more than 300 times over several days and it fired my flash nearly every time. And the Flash Exposure Compensation adjustment when in TTL mode also works well. But the other features such as power adjustment when in Manual mode did NOT work. Online searches found others had similar problems. And the users guide was the worst I've ever seen!! I'm used to users guides being difficult to understand (poor translations by non-native English speakers) and containing some information that is not completely accurate, but this one was just plain wrong in many areas. I finally had to play with it for several days until I figured out how all the buttons and menus worked. And as I said before, some functions simply didn't work at all!!!

Well made, easy to use. Seems like an improvement over other transmitters I've used in the past.

Very capable trigger - make sure to upload latest firmware

I purchased this trigger (+receivers) for use on my Nikon D750 and F6s. Out of the box, I was unable to get the transmitter to trigger the receivers/flashes. All indications was that it was working correctly. Before giving up, I went online and updated both the receivers and transmitter to Phottix's most current firmware (instructions are given in the online manual and the Phottix website). After this firmware update, flashes were triggered correctly and there appear to be no other issues using my D750 (I haven't tested the F6 yet). As I just received the order, I don't have operational test data to determine if there are any additional limitations. Five stars for promised capability and connectivity once updated. Four stars given overall for price and the out-of-box setup/update experience where lack of clarity/troubleshooting information may lead others to frustration.

What a great remote trigger!!! Functional and very easy to use. Its nice to have multiple channels when using multiple flashes so you can control the output of each individual strobe.

question

Is this transmitter compatible with the LumoPro Lp180r?
Asked by: Mauricio
While B&H is not an authorized LumoPro dealer and we do not carry the LP180R Off Camera Flash, according to the manufacturer's website, the LP180R Off Camera Flash features built-in Phottix Odin and Strato II Multi receivers, and would allow remote triggering using Phottix Odin or Strato transmitters without the need for an external receiver. As such, it would be compatible for use with the Phottix Odin II TTL Flash Trigger Transmitter for Nikon listed above.

question

Very interested in one question - HSS works in TTL together?
Asked by: IEVGEN
Yes, TTL is required to use High Speed Sync. If your flash does not have TTL, then you would have to use the Phottix Odin II TTL Flash Trigger's Over Drive Sync (or ODS) Mode to achieve shutter speeds above the camera's normal sync speed.
