ProMediaGear BBGV2 Reviews

Finally a good bracket

This bracket finally meets my need for a NON WOBBLY bracket, that puts your flash over the lens for vertical shots (SWING RIGHT) so I can quickly utilize my batt grip and controls. I was searching for something like this bracket and waisted time and money on lesser brands that, honestly, did not do the trick. This bracket has it all ... QD socket (which I personally don't trust or use on any of my expensive gear.) It also has multiple 1/4-20 thread holes on every surface, making it so useful for any mod attachment. It even has a locking cam arm bar for quick switch from vert to horizontal when you run and gun candids. And best of all IT'S THE MOST SOLID BRACKET I'VE USED so far which is very important to me, so I will end this review saying the money spent is worth this purchase. For a bracket with this balance and ease of use I would have paid more. My equipment used on it is.... Cannon R-5 w/batt grip & Cannon Speedlite 1100.

This is one beautiful bracket. I bought the red bracket. It is sturdy and easy to assemble. I attached it to my Canon 7D Mark II with battery grip and it is a nice fit. It is simple to rotate for horizontal or vertical shooting. Now I have not used it long (less than a month) but I feel that it will last years because of its durability.

It is good, one setback, the screw was unable to move, I need to replace with my own purchased screw which I bought sometime back. Though is a small screw, but it add to customers experiences.

Mixed Review

I purchased this product but ended up returning it after a few days. The reasons for the return are the cost and the design. See pros/cons below. Pros: - Made in the USA. - Well built. - Durable. - Stable. - Easy to assemble and use. Cons: - Expensive (Would have kept it if the price was around $199). - The way it is designed, my left knuckles hit the flash bracket mounting arm even after I moved the flash shoe mount. It just wasn't comfortable when holding my lens from underneath. - Must be used with battery grip.

Can this model be also used with a camera that does not have or if I choose not to use the battery grip?
Asked by: Benjamin
The BBGv2 is specifically designed only for cameras with a grip or taller body cameras. The pivot point of the arm is in a fixed position and can't be adjusted for shorter cameras. ProMediaGear Manufactures the BBX Boomerang Flash Bracket for shorter cameras.

question

can i use for 5dmkiv with 600ex RT?
Asked by: Jasper W.
The BBGv2 will work with the 5d4 but requires the battery grip. The BBGv2 is a taller bracket and designed specifically for taller bodied cameras such as the 1Dx2, Nikon D5 etc.... or any DSLR with a Battery Grip. The BBX is our Universal version Boomerang and designed for standard DSLR's, smaller bodied cameras or taller bodied cameras. It's adjustable to accommodate everything. The BBX will have the disconnect pin in the webbing on your thumb and first finger when shooting portrait / vertical. The BBGv2 is not adjustable up / down. The benefit of the BBGv2 with the correct camera is the ability to access the trigger and shutter function buttons conveniently when shooting in portrait / vertical mode. The U shaped design makes this very comfortable and has nothing blocking your fingers. All Boomerangs come complete with a CS2 low profile cold shoe to mount your flash.

question

Is this compatible with the Really Right Stuff L Bracket?
Asked by: james s.
The Custom or Universal Arca-Type Bracket Plates manufactured by ProMediaGear are modular and unique to the Bracket Plate System. The Custom or Universal L-Brackets glides into the Bracket Plate on hardened steel rods and can be removed or installed quickly with 2 set screws. If you wish to keep your current brand L-Bracket on camera PMG has a Bracket Plate Clamp that will allow the Boomerang to attach to your current Arca-Type plate. The clamp is called the CB60 or newer version CB60v2. The CB60 and CB60v2 works with Kirk and similar Arca-Type plates as well.

question

What are the pros and cons to titanium vs. aluminum? I curious as to why titanium is cheaper???
Asked by: Raymond
The BBGv2 is designed for cameras with a grip or taller bodied cameras. The material is all T6061 Aircraft Aluminum and anodized black. The only titanium piece is the front rotation area. We use that for wear resistance. The BBGv2 in Titanium (color) is just anodized in a silver Titanium finish put on the arm. It's still Aluminum. The price is in violation of our sales policy. Pick it up quick! It's suppose to be $362.45!

question

Can this be used comfortably with Black Rapid R-Straps?
Asked by: John C.
This fixture is not perfect and requires modification for instance flash bracket stops of 33.3..., 66.6.... degrees locking. Probably the best thing about it is that it allows you to carry the camera without using a strap. This makes its ergonomics great. Camera, battery pack, flash and mount make it heavy helping you stabilise hand held photography. it is similar to shooting a emulsion hasselblad with flash and bulky lens. it feels solid. I am enjoying this bracket the more I use it, hence it is a permanent fixture. its dimensions when fixed do not allow convenient camera bag placement, however that is an added bonus because when you are shooting the hard ware you need for the shot is always in your hand.
