ProMediaGear BBGV2 Reviews

For Nearly $400 delivered, Extremely Disappointed

Just received my bracket today and I will be promptly returning it. At this price point the machining and workmanship falls short. Where the foot of the bracket joins to the baseplate there is about 2-3mm of travel (see my photos). No matter how tightly you screw the two together, YOU CANNOT CLOSE IT. It may not seem like much, but it allows the whole thing to rock, shake and shift like crazy. When you are running and gunning with a professional full frame body and professional f2.8 lens attached, the shakiness is very off-putting. I can find a better way to spend almost $370.

Flash brackets are often a necessary evil when using a powerful flash. I use the Canon EL-1 Speedlite and with its instant recycling and power comes weight. I often worry about hanging that kind of weight off the hot shoe on my Canon R5. Plus the problem shooting a vertical means the flash is off to the side. When you use a hot shoe mounted flash, the light hits the subject straight on and is typically not as flattering as elevating the flash slightly. Using the ProMediaGear BBGV2 Boomerang Flash Bracket solves a couple of issues. (1) the weight of the flash is now supported by the bracket and (2) switching from vertical to horizontal is quick and easy. The bracket raises the flash above the lens and avoids the straight-on flash which tends to make your shots contrasty and harsh. Not svelte and sexy the ProMediaGear bracket looks like something a machinist would design but it gets the job done. What's cool is that the bracket locks into position and a squeeze of the little handle unlocks it.

question

can i use for 5dmkiv with 600ex RT?
Asked by: Jasper W.
The BBGv2 will work with the 5d4 but requires the battery grip. The BBGv2 is a taller bracket and designed specifically for taller bodied cameras such as the 1Dx2, Nikon D5 etc.... or any DSLR with a Battery Grip. The BBX is our Universal version Boomerang and designed for standard DSLR's, smaller bodied cameras or taller bodied cameras. It's adjustable to accommodate everything. The BBX will have the disconnect pin in the webbing on your thumb and first finger when shooting portrait / vertical. The BBGv2 is not adjustable up / down. The benefit of the BBGv2 with the correct camera is the ability to access the trigger and shutter function buttons conveniently when shooting in portrait / vertical mode. The U shaped design makes this very comfortable and has nothing blocking your fingers. All Boomerangs come complete with a CS2 low profile cold shoe to mount your flash.

question

Is this compatible with the Really Right Stuff L Bracket?
Asked by: james s.
The Custom or Universal Arca-Type Bracket Plates manufactured by ProMediaGear are modular and unique to the Bracket Plate System. The Custom or Universal L-Brackets glides into the Bracket Plate on hardened steel rods and can be removed or installed quickly with 2 set screws. If you wish to keep your current brand L-Bracket on camera PMG has a Bracket Plate Clamp that will allow the Boomerang to attach to your current Arca-Type plate. The clamp is called the CB60 or newer version CB60v2. The CB60 and CB60v2 works with Kirk and similar Arca-Type plates as well.

question

Can this be used comfortably with Black Rapid R-Straps?
Asked by: Anonymous
This fixture is not perfect and requires modification for instance flash bracket stops of 33.3..., 66.6.... degrees locking. Probably the best thing about it is that it allows you to carry the camera without using a strap. This makes its ergonomics great. Camera, battery pack, flash and mount make it heavy helping you stabilise hand held photography. it is similar to shooting a emulsion hasselblad with flash and bulky lens. it feels solid. I am enjoying this bracket the more I use it, hence it is a permanent fixture. its dimensions when fixed do not allow convenient camera bag placement, however that is an added bonus because when you are shooting the hard ware you need for the shot is always in your hand.
