Vello LW-100 overview

  • 1Description

Use a mobile device or desktop computer to remotely control your camera with the Extendá Wi-Fi Camera Remote Control from Vello. The Extendá will create an ad-hoc Wi-Fi network with a range of 164', allowing users to connect wirelessly with a mobile device or desktop computer and then make adjustments to a Canon, Nikon, or Sony camera's settings and functions via an app. This includes making changes to ISO, shutter, speed, aperture, exposure compensation, and more. A Live View mode is also available which provides a feed of your camera's view on your device, enabling Touch Focus and many other functions.

Not just useful for taking photos and video, the Extendá can automatically stream photos to your mobile device, permitting a client to review images as you work. These images can be directly downloaded to your device for immediate upload to other services and applications. Along with these features, the Extendá offers other functions to help you shoot more difficult shots, including a focus stacking mode and an intervalometer with bulb shooting. Additionally, the device is powered by a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery and can be used to charge mobile devices via the USB output.

Compatible Cameras
Canon: 1D X, 1D X Mark II, 5D Mark II, 5D Mark III, 5D Mark IV, 5DS*, 5DS R*, 6D, 6D Mark II, 7D, 7D Mark II*, 50D, 60D, 70D, 77D, T1i, T2i, T3, T3i, T4i, T5, T5i, T6i, T7i, SL1

Sony: Most cameras are supported, however not all functions of the Extendá are available. Please see the manufacturer's Sony compatibility chart for detailed compatibility information.

*Certain cameras may require the use of the USB cable that comes supplied with the camera.

The Extendá connects directly to a camera via a USB cable and then creates an ad-hoc Wi-Fi network, allowing users to remotely control their camera using an application available on iOS, Android, Mac, or Windows devices. The Wi-Fi network has a range of 164', while an Ethernet port supports a wired connection to a computer.
Users will be able to remotely change settings such as shutter speed, ISO, aperture, exposure compensation, white balance, and more.
Live view mode provides a real-time stream from the camera to your device. This allows you to preview images, using a larger and more detailed screen, before they are taken.
The Extendá app supports touch focus/tap-to-focus functionality. This means you can just tap on your device's touchscreen to select which area of the scene to focus on. Alternatively, users can also manually control focus by adjusting the focal plane forward or backwards in small increments.
Set up the app for auto viewing of images to have each image streamed to a mobile device or computer immediately following capture. This allows a client or assistant to easily review images as they are taken. Also, users can use the Extendá app to browse images on the card and then select images to save to your mobile device or computer.
Create advanced timed exposures with the controls provided by the Extendá app. This includes delay timers for countdowns before your shot as well as an intervalometer for setting up time-lapses. A bulb mode is available as well for long exposures.
Focus stacking will allow you to take a series of photos with varying focus points that can be combined in post-processing software to create a single image with a wide depth-of-field.
Set up bracketing in order to make sure you don't miss the shot. This mode offers options for exposure bracketing using shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation. This tool can be used to help create HDR images using post-processing software.
A rule-of-thirds grid is available to help with composition in stills and video.
Powered by a built-in 3.7V 1800mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery, the Extendá can also be used to recharge mobile devices via its USB port.

Extendá Wi-Fi Camera Remote Control for Select Canon, Nikon & Sony is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great Company - Bad Product After speaking to a representative for the company I ordered this remote to use with my Nikon D7100. I was told over the phone that it would work with my camera and I could transmit the images to my laptop. It is NOT compatiblewith the 7100 and it will NOT transmit to a MAC laptop. Only to a phone or Ipad. I was able to use it with a D600. It transmits images very slowly. Nearly 10 seconds. I've purchased many items from B & H over the yearsand will continue to do so. However, this item was terrible. Returned...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far, so good Purchased this remote mainly for the video function to be able to remotely access my D750 and turn on the video while goose hunting. I've used it a few times and it has worked great with the camera placed 10 ft or so behind the hunters. Hooking up the remote to my Samsung S7 Edge is pretty easy and having the ability to change settings is awesome. It does take the remote control alittle time to change the settings such as ISO, aperture, white balance, etc, but nothing drastically long. Battery life running the remote on the D750, the D750 lasted 5 hours and the remote wasn't dead yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really valuable device I had a bit of a problem with my Nikon D5600's WiFi connection, which tech support cheerfully and successfully walked me through. It then functioned well, but only with my laptop and not any other devices, including our smartphones. Danny on Vello email was super attentive and discovered that my otherwise fine memory card was apparently at fault, and in fact when I switched to an older and slower card, it worked perfectly on our tablets and phones. Great service! The Extenda is now hooked to my camera, and I am shooting bird pictures out of their sight and from the comfort of my kitchen. Switching the card for using the Extenda is easy enough.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Disappointing Did not have the cable to attach to my Canon camera. Fortunately, I had one that worked. When I set it up in my living room, it did great. I could do all it promised. Connected quickly with my iPhone. I could trigger shutter, see results, change settings. WoW! I was happy. Yesterday I tried to use it to take a group picture without using timer and running. Camera on tripod, and it worked great. When I moved 20 feet away, it would not do anything. If I moved 10 feet away, it worked, but not 20. That makes the device basically useless. If I have to stand by my camera to get it to work, I might as well use the camera. Useless and disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would by this product again. I was going to purchase Tether Tool's Case Air. I was given the option to try Extenda Wifi DSLR Remote. I was pleasantly surprised. I tried to product will all three of my Canon Camera's 70D, 80D and 5D Mark III and it works with all three. I have it connected to my Galaxy View Tablet. Recently, I had a photo shoot and this product performed without any hick-ups.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple, powerful, and affordable remote control I love this product. Finally a simple, powerful, and affordable remote for my Nikon (and Canon). It took me less than 5 minutes to get the device up and running. The Vello Extenda is so much more than a remote (as I came to find out). It actually allows live viewing of your scene right on your smart phone as well as the ability to modify controls such as Exposure Mode, F-stop, Shutter speed, ISO, focus, metering pattern, and self timer. It even allows you to set up Auto Bracketing and Bracketing for Focus Stacking! I love that I can zoom in on my phone and check not only focus but also depth of field with the Live View Function. There's a slight delay when the live view refreshes after changing the fstop and shutter speed, but I think that is to be expected when working over a Wi-Fi network. Also the step values in the bracketing function are displayed as 1,2, 3. These are actually third of stops. So a one step is 1/3 of a stop. The 3 is actually a one stop change. Aside from those (what I consider to be) small issues, I think the Vello Extenda is well worth the money and a great tool in any photographers kit!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Extremely Disappointed. Not for Sony a7RII. I had been looking for something like this for my Sony a7RII. I have the Canon CamRanger remote and it is an indispensable product for my needs. After reading as much info as I could find, I thought this remote would work but it has a major flaw (at least for the a7RII), it cannot download the images to the memory card of the camera. I am not interested in saving the images in my iPadPro nor send them to social media while I am shooting. Why would I want to save 500-1000 images (high res raws and jpegs) to a mobile device? It takes forever! First of all, it is less secure and second, I do not want my mobile device storing 50-150 gigabytes of work per shoot. I want my back up to be in the digital card of the camera and that is something this product cannot do. I was in communication with the tech/service dept. of Vello and they confirmed this functionality is not something their product can do nor are willing to pursue development in a firmware upgrade or in future versions of the remote . My guess is, this task is something the a7RIII will not be able to achieve either. This is too bad because even though the Extend it is not as robust as the CamRanger, it performed fairly well on the iPadPro at a very decent price. I think the only camera where the digital card can be used as backup is the a6500 but with certain compromises. This product will not be suitable for many professionals using Sony until they can achieve this functionality.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unusable for video I bought this remote for my 1DX mark II, in order to control my camera when it's on a gimbal. The application crashes after each video I record (Android version). Touch focus is unusable. When I touch my mobile screen for setting the focus point, the focus box on the camera display moves to a totally different part of the image. The lag is tremendous, much more than I expected. Maybe for photographers it can be a nice addition to the bag. For professional video it is definitely not.
