A Rycote 90° Shortie XLR connector is situated inside the basket, complete with an integral RF shield to protect against the kind of dirty audio attributed to radio interference. Rycote 010323 Reviews

No instruction manual

I've used the product once. Seems solid, I like it so far. Aside from a brochure about the Windjammer, this product arrives with no instructions, just parts in a box. I can't figure out what some of the parts do. A manual should be included.

For the money there's nothing better, you will find cons on other reviews, such as: the locking mechanism isn't as good as the more expensive Rycote systems and that's true. But keep in mind the price of this blimp, it gets the job done, you can choose which way to mount it, using the handle or the not, the deadcat doesn't need a tie, it's super lightweight compared to a Rode blimp or other blimp this size. If you can afford the more expensive one, by all means get it, but this is a really good addition to the kit.

Small!

It's smaller than Rode Blimp system and that is the most advantage point I think for ENG location sound. I just put it in my backpack when mobility is the most important for my job. Wind protection function is sufficient.

Good for the money

I purchased this in November of 2016, so I've had some time to really use it. PROS - Excellent at blocking wind. Works just as it should. - Quiet suspension. - Fairly light weight. - Decent system for removing the zepplin from the mount. Maybe a little faster than the traditional Rycote slide on style. The small downside to this is the mounting O does give your boom slightly less clearance in low ceiling enviroments and door ways. - The cabling is very modern. The XLR input is spaced from the pole for use with a plug on trasmitter and the XLR connector for the microphone is compact. The cable itself is configured in a way that puts minimal stress on the XLR connector (like a com-box would). CONS - Cheap plastic. Not the worst but it doesn't feel like the nicer Rycote systems. - The handle for adjusting the angle of the blimp does not lock tightly (like it does on nicer Rycote's). It feels like if you tighten it too much, it might break or strip the tightening mecanism. Even at it's tightest, you can still adjust the angle of the boom with your hand and not much force. It's not a huge deal but it is annoying from time to time. All in all, it's a decent system. Great bang for your buck. Perfect for Indie film, ENG and Doc stuff.

best you can get for the value

sure it doesn't come in a dedicated box, sure the build quality feels plasticy and the handle system is a bit complicated (they give you two mount options, why not just one that is versatile enough?) but for the price and to my knowledge, sure it's the best you can get!

Rycote fails me, B&H to the rescue.

Just bought this.  No obvious way to open it w/o maybe damaging it.  Zero info on Rycote website, one of the worst I have seen.  No manual of assembly with it, just figure it out on your own.  Truly abysmal website that is nothing but buy, buy, buy.  I already bought it and may send it back as I am not willing to ruin a $320. item due to rycote not wanting to even send a simple drawing.  Of course, B&H had the answer in a flash as usual.  Still, Rycote, why no indicator or a small piece of paper to show a first time buyer what is needed.

Never keep time on sound. Its faster than Sennheiser and rode blimps. Its a great deal but keep in mind.. This is not the best for really strong winds.

Is it possible to mount this to a cage or other mounting method without the handle, and if so what type of connection does it use?
Asked by: Aaron
So for the record I purchased the older version of this blimp (Rycote S-series) used which uses the same handle mounting method. If you disconnect the handle from the thin plate of metal coming down from the blimp the plate has 7 holes in it. The middle hole which the handle bolts onto is too small for a 1/4-20 thread, but the 6 larger holes ringing it are bigger than a 1/4-20 thread and can be attached to one using a 1/4-20 nut. This allows easy (and low profile) mounting to the side of a camera cage.

Can an Audio Technica BP4025 be used in this blimp?
Asked by: Alberto
The Audio-Technica BP4025 is a front-heavy stereo mic that does not have a specific blimp made for it, but the mic will fit into this Rycote Super Blimp. I would also consider the Rycote Baby Ball Gag Windshield, B&H # RYBBG20 , with a Rycote Windjammer for Baby Ball Gag Windshield, B&H # RYBBGWJ and a shock mount, such as the Rycote Universal Shotgun Mount for Cameras and Boom Poles, B&H # RYUSGM.

Is there a difference in sound quality when comparing the Super-Blimp to the Super-Shield? I noticed the Super-Shield provides protection without high frequency loss, but I didn't see this feature listed with the Super-Blimp?
Asked by: David
Rycote claims that the Super-Blimp is "acoustically transparent", but I have yet to find a test to back this up.
