Manfrotto 410 overview

  • 1Description

This 410 3-Way, Geared Pan-and-Tilt Head from Manfrotto has a load capacity of 11.0 lb and can be attached to tripods or other support systems that feature a 3/8"-16 mount. It includes an integrated RC4 quick release cam lock and a 410PL Quick Release Plate. RC4 compatible quick release plates such as the 410PL can removed from the head by pulling the cam lock's spring-loaded lever, which also allows the plate to be instantly reattached.

Cameras or accessories that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 or 3/16"-20 mount can be connected to the 410PL Quick Release Plate, which measures 2.5 x 3.3 x 0.5" and has a rubberized, non-slip surface. The head can be rotated 360°, tilted 90° forwards or 30° backwards, as well as 90° sideways for portrait orientation. Each of these three movements function independently of each other and have individual, snap-lock knobs with easy-to-turn, 4-star grips. Turning each snap-lock knob allows the corresponding movement to be rapidly adjusted, and once the knob is released, the adjustment is locked into place. An additional, rubberized knob set within each snap-lock knob allows incremental, geared adjustments, which help to ensure that any device mounted to this 410 3-Way, Geared Pan-and-Tilt Head is precisely positioned relative to the subject.

To further promote fast and repeatable device positioning, this 410 3-Way, Geared Pan-and-Tilt Head also includes dedicated angle scales for each movement that are designed for easy visibility.

    Manfrotto 410 reviews

410 3-Way, Geared Pan-and-Tilt Head with 410PL Quick Release Plate is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 291.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from precision control I needed a head that could give me precise control on the 3 axes. This is exactly what this head does, and it does it well. However ... The head won't allow your camera to look straight up : one of the buttons hits the central part of the head preventing it to look up more than app 30 degrees. This wouldn't be so much of a problem if it were easy to mount the camera facing aft on the head, but the mouning plate will only fit one way on the head. The workaround is to unscrew the plate slightly (with a screwdriver or coin), turn it 180 degress, fasten it again, mount the camera back on the head, turn it sideways and up... what a hassle. Except for this not so clever design, the head works great. I'm pleased with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool for architectural and real estate photography I use this head for real estate photography and other times when I need a long exposure. Previously I've used the Manfrotto pistol grip heads and have also used ball heads. This one is much more stable and precise, allowing me to dial in those critical angles to make real estate and architecture look good. I was worried about being able to shoot as quickly with this one, and it has slowed me down just a little bit from previous types of heads I've used, but with practice, I think I'll get up to speed. The quick adjustment knobs work well, but sometimes you have to dial the knobs a bit after using the quick adjustment knobs for the gears to click into place again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EXCELLENT! I have been using the Manfrotto 410 for about 6 months now. I bought it for real estate and architectural photography, but it is SO nice to work with that I use it for many types of jobs. Also nice to work with is this type of quick release mechanism. Although I once had a problem with the quick release, the repair service was superb - rapid, exacting, and free. The 410 head is strong and stable for 35mm format. It has no problem handling my 5Diii with 24mm tilt/shift or 17mm tilt/shift lenses. The adjustment knobs rotate smoothly and precisely for exacting adjustments, and each has an override mechanism for large changes. Engineering, materials and manufacture are all excellent - one of my favorite pieces of photo gear!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal for long lens Total Solar Eclipse & astrophotography I specifically purchased this head for astrophotography with a sky tracking mount. The Manfrotto 410 Junior Geared Head is made of aluminum, but is a substantial piece of equipment with thankfully large and easily used axis movement knobs. There was no sag with a DSLR and long lens attached. Making fine adjustments for corrections in all directions was smooth. I will definitely be using the Geared Head during the August 2017 Total Solar Eclipse. I also plan to use the Manfrotto Geared Head for imaging of the night sky. Being able to make fine pointing adjustments will facilitate framing of the target objects.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product for pro photographers I would definitely recommend this head to any pro architectural and real estate photographers. It definitely makes your life easier but most importantly helps you switch from horizontal to vertical composition very quickly, hassle free. Most of the time the vertical of my shots are so straight now that I don't have to correct them in post. I wish I bought it years ago. It's big and heavy, so you need muscles in your arms and hands to make it work. The reason why I give 4 out of 5 stars is because I'm sure there is room for improvement to make the unit easier to use and smoother. It does what is supposed to, so definitely a must have.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid and Smooth I bought this because I was tired of ball heads moving in all directions when trying to reposition them. I mostly shoot food, architecture and landscape so the small, exact movements are appreciated.Build is very solid and the QR plate is large enough for medium format cameras to sit comfortably on top of. My only issue so far is that in order to shoot straight up, the camera has to be reversed on the QR plate... maybe I'm missing something.. Also, I put this on a series 4 gitzo and now need a spacer because of the size of the base on the actual tripod. Not a big deal, but something to be aware of if you're not buying manfrotto legs.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from As an Interiors Photographer I wanted to like it, but..... I really wanted this geared head and waited a year to buy it. Finally took the plunge and it was delivered on Jan 26, 2018. Now six weeks later its off to Arizona for repairs. After four weeks usage I noticed it had play in both the x and y axis. It wasn't much but enough to make some of my photos out of sync when I layered photos for processing in Photoshop. I called B&H they said it was too late to swap it and referred me to Manfrotto. Not happy with B&H about that. After 10 days of trying to get a return call from Manfrotto's tech support they agreed to fix it under warranty. I'll write an update when I get it back. I still want to like it.....but we'll see.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I made the RIGHT DECISION. After 18 months of photographing homes for real estate and home builders I finally feel secure with my camera mount. Ballheads are great and I will continue to use one for my nature outings, but for home photography not so great. No more balancing the 5 pounds of camera, remote, light and diffuser with every composition change. A few twists with the fine tuning control knobs for a level composition or the rapid adjustmet control knob for a complete composition change. I no longer have to change LCD screens to insure all is level. The well positioned level on the 410 Junior gives me all the info I need at a glance so I can focus on exposure and compostion.
