Manfrotto 410 3-Way, Geared Pan-and-Tilt Head with 410PL Quick Release Plate

This 410 3-Way, Geared Pan-and-Tilt Head from Manfrotto has a load capacity of 11.0 lb and can be attached to tripods or other support systems that feature a 3/8"-16 mount. It includes an integrated RC4 quick release cam lock and a 410PL Quick Release Plate. RC4 compatible quick release plates such as the 410PL can removed from the head by pulling the cam lock's spring-loaded lever, which also allows the plate to be instantly reattached.

Cameras or accessories that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 or 3/8-16" mount can be connected to the 410PL Quick Release Plate, which measures 2.5 x 3.3 x 0.5" and has a rubberized, non-slip surface. The head can be rotated 360°, tilted 90° forwards or 30° backwards, as well as 90° sideways for portrait orientation. Each of these three movements function independently of each other and have individual, snap-lock knobs with easy-to-turn, 4-star grips. Turning each snap-lock knob allows the corresponding movement to be rapidly adjusted, and once the knob is released, the adjustment is locked into place. An additional, rubberized knob set within each snap-lock knob allows incremental, geared adjustments, which help to ensure that any device mounted to this 410 3-Way, Geared Pan-and-Tilt Head is precisely positioned relative to the subject.

To further promote fast and repeatable device positioning, this 410 3-Way, Geared Pan-and-Tilt Head also includes dedicated angle scales for each movement that are designed for easy visibility.

410 3-Way, Geared Pan-and-Tilt Head Kit with 410PL Quick Release Plates Reviews

Was concerned about size but it's well worth it

I needed to replace my Manfrotto 460mg head that I mostly used photographing editorial portraits and architectural interiors on dslr and sometimes a small 4x5. I had chosen that one due to its size and ease of fitting in my bag. I was hesitant to buy the 410 due to concerns about the larger size but it's really not too much bigger. Working with it though is a huge world of difference. Definitely worth making the switch. I got used to the way it handles immediately and the gears make all the difference lining up a tight composition.

Affordable geared head

Works great making fine adjustments to camera position. It's weight can discourage outdoor shooting, tho. In the studio, I can use it to animate camera moves like pans and tilts in my stop motion work.

Great Entry-level Geared Head

This is a fantastic geared head for the money. There are definitely tiers of cost and quality in the geared head market, and this is at the low end of the spectrum. The quality is fine, especially for the money. I also have the 405 model, which is much bigger and more robust, but also twice the price. I think the gears in this model have a tendency to wear out a little quicker, and the ultra-fine precision and stability isn't exactly the highest level of perfection, but it is well worth the money. If you want that next level of stability and control, and are looking into refining your landscape, architecture, product, or (especially) composite photography methods; this is a good step in the right direction.

Wonderful economic geared head

I should have bought a geared head long ago. It is exceptional for landscape and macro work. The clutches work quite well for fast positioning. Economically priced, it is well built and a joy to use. The quick release plate is beefy. I admit to being a wee bit slow in figuring out the quick release functionality - but once I did, wow, do I like it. Simply placing the plate into the head snaps it into place very securely.

Super smooth!

I purchased this as a replacement for a much older model that had become very choppy in its movement. This new model is so incredibly smooth. The bubble level is easy to see even in low-light conditions.

Astonishing Precision

I received the Manfrotto 410 Geared Head. I previously owned a Manfrotto ball head and it served me well, until the ball head movement gave out on me. At first glance, I was surprised by the overall size of the 410. It is quite hefty and solid. I photograph architecture, so I needed something with the proper movements. This one exceeded my expectations. It is extremely precise. It is perfect for shooting architecture. Where have you been all of my life! I definitely recommend this product.

Finally got a geared head

After one day with this geared head, I'm so happy I finally have it. Makes leveling and fine tuning so much easier. I purchased this one over the much more expensive one mostly because of the cost difference, but after using it, I understand what people are saying about how close the gears are to the head. It's a bit tight, but for me, the price I paid for this is worth it that inconvenience.

Works really well

I highly recommend this tripod head. It works as advertised and works well. It hold up a Sony a6600 and SEL200600 zoom without any issues. I do not understand the problem that it tilts 30 degrees in one direction and 90 degrees in the other. It takes less than 1 minute to reverse the position of the camera or lens on the release plate. Ignore this nonsense and get the head. You will be happy with it.
