Surprised Matthews doesn't offer a version of this all in one solution. Using Less pieces to cobble together, lighter, and very secure to clamp to pipe or square stock up to 2.5 in.

You need lots of these for studio work. They're cheap, sturdy and reliable.

I made the mistake of purchasing a cheaper alternative and the grip head wiggles on the clamp. Is this an issue with these too?

When the grip head is tighten down on the Avenger D230 Super Clamp Grip Head (Black) it does not move. It is very well made.

Will this work? I want to use the clamp side to ...

Will this work? I want to use the clamp side to go onto a c stand and the other side to attach to a 6'x6' diffusion. I want to be able to adjust the clamp to get certain angles. Hope this makes sense.

This clamp would not be ideal for that. It would be better to use a End jaw and Grip head.

Can you use this to hold a monopod in place in a tight area

Tricky question : depends on the weight of the cam fixed on the monopod, the angle, and the place where you want to hold the monopod. But for a small cam (dslr) I'd say mostly yes. This thing is pretty robust and the clamp is large enough to hold tight a monopod with a dslr on it. You do need a light stand correctly counterweighed to fixe the whole thing on it...
