FotodioX MFT-SNYE Overview

This Lens Mount Adapter from Fotodiox enables the use of your Micro Four Thirds lenses on Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. It features a durable aluminum-alloy construction and its design also maintains infinity focus.

This manual adapter does not maintain automatic lens control between the camera and lens; aperture priority or manual shooting modes should be used, as well as stop-down metering for exposure control. Additionally, due to the smaller image circle of Micro Four Thirds lenses, vignetting will likely occur on both APS-C and full-frame format sensors.

FotodioX MFT-SNYE Reviews

Works as intended: easy to put on, not as easy to remove

I user two systems, Micro 4/3 and Sony E. I have several lenses in M43 mount that will cover APS-C and some that cover FF. They're all manual focus without electronic contacts so are equally useful on either system. The fotodiox adapter performs well. Fit is tight so infinity focus is maintained when on E mount. It attaches easily, but can be difficult to remove depending on the lens. This is my 2nd adapter because some of the lenses are actually preferable used on E mount so I plan to leave one on all the time and the 2nd to switch when desired. One modification would improve it. The outer ring of the adapter partially covers the lens release button on the Sony, making it difficult to hit the release button. They could do a slight cut-out on the rim where it matches up with the button to make removal easier. Beyond those small issues, it's an easy recommendation.

The FotodioX Lens mount adapter works perfectly. Lens mounts correctly and the focus to infinity is correct.

Following up on my last Q. I believe all Olympus (and Panasonic?) AF lenses are "focus by wire". Is it physically possible to manually focus such lenses when mounted on this adapter? I would think not. If not, there are very few MFT lenses that can be used with this adapter. Correct?
Asked by: Dan
If the Micro Four Third mount lens you use uses focus-by-wire, I do not believe it would allow you to focus the lens using the FotodioX Lens Mount Adapter listed above as I believe electronic communication is required for adjusting focus-by-wire lenses. However, if you have a full manual-focus lens or if your lens uses mechanical coupling for focus purposes, then those should offer compatibility with the above lens mount adapter.

If a 25mm MFT lens (50mm FF equiv) is adopted to E mount, is the field of view or effective focal length changed?
Asked by: Scott
The focal length of a lens never changes. The "equivalency" to 35mm is dependent on the camera being used. Therefore a 25mm MFT lens adapted to a Sony full frame camera would be the same as using a native Sony mount lens that has a 25mm focal length. But also due to the smaller image circle of Micro Four Thirds lenses, vignetting will likely occur on both APS-C and full-frame format sensors when using this adapter.

Can I manually focus an AF Olympus MFT lens with this adapter, or is it useless with anything other than fully manual lenses? I don't care so much about the aperture as I intend to shoot wide open all the time.
Asked by: Dan
The adapter is manual focus only. Additionally, due to the smaller image circle of Micro Four Thirds lenses, vignetting will likely occur on both APS-C and full-frame format sensors.
