    Glyph Technologies BBPL2000 reviews

2TB Blackbox Plus 5400 rpm USB 3.1 Type-C External Hard Drive is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Glyph portable hard drive Amazing portable hard drive. Super fast. I use it on MacBook Pro retina. The speeds are great. Transfers large files (7gb+) and it's great. I know from friends Glyph has amazing customer service too so that's great to know.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little backup drive Although the 2TB version only has a somewhat slow 5400rpm drive, it's perfect for backing up important files, or anything else that doesn't need super-fast speed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, average speed, fewer features than expected I knew this was a 5400rpm drive when I bought it and it works just fine for my photography and audio recording tasks MOST of the time. However, I can hear it clicking away when I am doing heavy Lightroom work, and I did get a drive speed warning in Logic on a project with less than 10 tracks the other day. So, it's not that fast. With USBC the drive RPM speed is actually the bottleneck. A few dissappointments: 1. It does make fairly audible clicking sounds when reading and writing, which surprised me at first since these are marketed for audio recording. 2. When I eject the drive from my mac, it doesn't spin down or power off at all. I usually wait a minute to unplug it and it still makes a whining sound like I'm cutting off power suddenly. 3. The packaging says it has "built in drive-health monitoring" but it comes with no software or other info about this. I contacted GLYPH customer support about all of these and they assured me that the drive noise and failure to spin down was normal. They referred me to paid apps for drive health monitoring. Overall they were dismissive of my concerns (told me that bus-powered drives do not turn off...BS) and I'm disappointed that the drive doesn't actually have all of the features it claims. Even my super cheapo bus-powered seagate backup drives turn themselves off when ejected. It does have a great warranty and I've had great luck with Glyph products and support in the past. So I was willing to pay the premium. This drive just seems below their usual standards.
