I like the size and ease of use.

unexpected ejections

I loved this fast drive initially, and still do, however it will eject mid project by the slightest bump of the table or shift or movement. If it doesn't move at all it is ok, but that is near impossible.

Awesome Drive

I bought this to replace a G-Technology drive. I have always been uncomfortable with the G drive, the first copy I received was faulty right out of the box. (B&H was great with the exchange!!) And, the second copy has always acted weird (in my opinion). It started getting really slow and was constantly shutting off even with trying to change the settings on my computer. So, in fear of losing everything, I bought this Glyph drive. It has been great right out of the box. Set up was a breeze, transferring files was a breeze. I use an external hard drive to keep my thousands of images, so if the G-Technology drive crashed, I would not have been happy! While I have only had it a few days, I can tell the tremendous difference in the two. Even though the G drive was Thunderbolt this Glyph drive is much more responsive. It's always a crap shoot when buying new gear, so I was a little afraid that I was going to experience the same issues. But, this drive works like a dream! I would totally recommend it.

Can't go wrong with Glyph. One of the best hard drive manufacturers. I only wish there was a 7200 RPM at 4 TB. But 5400 is fine for backups and content. Built strong with a rubber cover. Comes with USB 3.1 Type-C cable and USB Type-C to Type-A for older computers. The warranty is excellent as well!

question

I'd like to use this drive for video editing but it doesn't seem to have a cool fan. Has that been a problem for any video editors?
Asked by: Agi F.
The Glyph Technologies 3TB Blackbox Pro 7200 rpm B&H # GLBBPR3000 has passive cooling and does not need a fan to operate. With speeds of up to 220 MB/s, it's well suited for video editing but if you are editing 4K footage with high bitrates, you may need to consider a faster editing drive like a RAID 0 array like the B&H # GLSRTB8ENT which offers speeds of up to 360 MB/s.

Yes. But it's always best to reformat the HD in Disk Utility when you set it up for the first time. That'll save you any compatibility issues.

Windows Formatting Instructions (7 and above) once BlackBox Plus is connected: 1. Right-click My Computer and click Manage. 2. In the Computer Management window, under Storage, click Disk Management. 3. In Disk Management, right click the Unallocated partition near the bottom of the window that corresponds to the capacity of BlackBox Plus (often Disk 1). Click "New Simple Volume" and the Write Signature Wizard pops up. 4. Use the wizard to write a signature to the new drive. If you want only one partition we suggest using a primary partition and selecting the maximum size. In most cases you’ll want to use NTFS volumes, this is the default for Windows 7. Ensure "Perform a Quick Format" is checked. Choose exFAT if you want to use the drives with older versions of Windows or if you want to use the drive with Windows and Mac OS. 5. Formatting will take a few minutes after which your drive will be ready to use. •Note - Formatting for Windows 8 and above is the same once you are in Disk Management.
