Lineco L533-1025 Overview

This 1" x 30' Gummed Linen Hinging Tape from Lineco is used to mount photographs and artwork to mounting boards and hinge together museum boards to create window mats. Book spines or maps can also be repaired and kept together by using the hinging tape.

The linen tape is water-activated, which creates a strong adhesive, but also allows it to come apart easily when water is reapplied. The acid-free linen tape is pH neutral and the fabric has a 65 / 55 thread count. As a result, the linen and adhesive have a stronger hold on larger pieces of art.

Archival materials for framing

It is essential that when framing you use non-acid materials. Linen tape is used to attach your photograph or paper artwork to the matt. The fibers in the tape make it easy to remove the tape from your art without tearing the print if for some reason you wish to do so. The glue must be moistened but is acid free and the tape is linen. I have been framing works for over 40 years and always use linen tape.

I used this tape to hinge mount mats in preparation for a show. The tape was easy to work with. It absorbed water well yet was still easy to handle once it was wet - not too sticky and did not curl or fold over onto itself. It takes several seconds for the water to soak in and for the adhesive to activate, but that makes it easy to work with. Once applied it held well, yet could still be maneuvered for a minute or so in case you needed make an adjustment. Once dry, the hinge was smooth and strong. I would definitely buy this product again.
