B&H has put together this 3 Head Fluorescent Lighting Kit with Boom Arm Kit to offer photographers and videographers a versatile, multi-purpose set up for location work or for the studio. The kit includes three four-socket fluorescent fixtures, each with four 32W spiral bulbs. Two 8' and one 9.5' air-cushioned stands are also included. Thanks to the air-cushioned light stands, mounted lights will slowly descend, thus avoiding impact damage. To create soft, flattering light three 50 x 70cm (20 x 27.5") softboxes are included. They have removable front diffusion and require no speed ring for use. The included 6.5' Boom Arm has a tilt bracket that's a great fit for the 9.5' light stand. It's an ideal rig for hair-lighting and other overhead applications.

How long is the power cord that is attached to each fixture? Can you recommend an extension cord with a four-outlet box that will safely handle the 382-watt load of the twelve 32W CFLs? Thank you for your help!
The cord is 11 feet long. There is one cord so there is no need if you need the cord to be longer to have four outlets.You should not go below 14 gauge cords. This is a link for different lengths http://bhpho.to/2ej0BYH.

How heavy of a sand bag would I need as a counterweight for the one on the boom arm if it was fully extended?
The sand bag weight depends on the weight of what is on the outer end of the arm and how far the arm is extended from the stand. Same as a balance scale.

How do the soft boxes attach to the three fixtures in this kit? I see that the translucent covers are attached to each box with a combination of zippers and Velcro, but I can't tell how the assembled box is attached to the light head. Thank you for your help and advice!
The softboxes attach to this heads using 4 rod points which are located behind the lamp sockets. Those rods then slip into each corner on the black softbox fabric.

The 4-Socket Fluorescent Fixtures included with the kit aren't designed to be used with a snoot, though you may be able to fit certain snoots around them.
