GoPro AAMIC-001 Overview

  • 1Description

Record high-quality clean audio from an external source with your GoPro using the Pro Pro 3.5mm Mic Adapter from GoPro. It's compatible with the HERO7 Black, HERO6 Black, HERO5 Black, and HERO5 Session.

A 3.5mm analog stereo input can accept mic or line-level signals, and is compatible with powered and unpowered microphones. So whether you want to plug in a shotgun or lavalier mic for interviews, or take a signal directly from a music venue's mixing console, this adapter will come in handy. The internal A/D (analog to digital) conversion has 106 dB of headroom, ensuring a clean audio recording. While the adapter takes up the camera's USB port, a pass-through USB port is available on the adapter, so you can still charge your camera with the adapter plugged in.

    GoPro AAMIC-001 Reviews

Pro 3.5mm Mic Adapter is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from does the job Does the intended purpose. Costs way too much. I can see not including it as few people will use this, but it should not exceed $15. Worked well for our application (recording in car communications of rally car) but needed taping and zip tie-ing connections as they rattled loose on the first stage. Can't 100% blame this, but matched the feel of it being big and not feeling locked in by any means and that seems like it should happen for the cost and the application (action camera). Does the job and audio was extremely clear. Would recommend buying, just hate the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from it works! I often use GoPros as static (unmanned) cameras in theater and concert shoots, from unusual vantage points, then sync later in post for my final video. Premiere Pros audio sync is a big time-saver, but it needs to start with good clean audio. The GoPro in-body audio is not reliable for this (too muffled, too gain-leveled, too white-noisy). So I added a low-cost external mic (a Tascam ST-TM1), and got much more syncable audio. This adapter also allows me to do this while still sending power to the GoPro from a giant USB battery (GAF-taped close by), so that long shoots dont run out of power. Very pleased.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A must-have accessory if you need an external mic or line in I use this Mic Adapter along with the Genustech Genus Cage for GoPro HERO5 Black and a Rode VideoMicro Compact On-Camera Microphone. If not using the Rode I also use a line in from a Zoom H2 or an Azden Wireless 2 Mic system. Yes, the Adapter is large, and yes, I'd love it more if it was smaller, but I'll trade that inconvenience for the much-needed ability to plug in power to this adapter, which I do with a RAVPower Deluxe 16,750mAh External Battery Charger. I don't hear the noise some people mention and all is working as expected. I too noticed the plug is not the best or tightest fit, but what choice do we have here. Would I purchase this again if I had to - Yes, of course, unless they make a newer upgrade that is smaller and fits tighter, and has the two features most important: Mic/Line In and Power inputs. EXTREMELY IMPORTANT NOTE HERE ... I returned my first Adapter because I thought it wasn't working. In fact returned the Rode mic first. Everything I plugged in didn't seem to work. What I found out was, if the HERO5 was set to different Resolutions, it seemed in some of them there wasn't an 'Audio Input' option available. What I eventually found out was sometimes, if there wasn't the option in 'Preferences/Audio Input', if I turned the camera off then back on it cleared whatever problem and all 'Audio Input' options would be available. Had the same thing happen while writing this review so I was able to replicate the problem, at least once again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Works, but why. This is a really clunky solution that works. A more elegant solution is needed.
    Date published: 2017-08-22
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Annoyed to have to purchase Annoying that this is necessary to use an external mic with Hero 5.
    Date published: 2017-03-21
Rated 1 out of 5 by from improperly fitting connectors USB-C connectors will not properly seat on the adapter, leaving 2 to 3mm of the plug exposed and prone to walking out.? It seats enough to allow charging of the battery via an external battery, but any bump will disconnect it. The 3.5mm port fit is also far too loose, more loos than the USB-C port.? The slightest bump will dislodge the cable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not good at recording voice I bought from them the GoPro 3.5mm Mic Adapter but its not always working. Meaning is not always recording my voice.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Did not buy for external mic! I purchased this, as we are using a GoPro for a second camera on a live stream and to a video recorder. We found that every time we took the GoPro shot we got the GoPro internal mic coming up the HDMI cable to our recorder, and may does that sound bad. You can not mute the internal mic on GoPro. Found online that if you use external mic adaptor and not plug a mic in, there would be no audio come up HDMI line. It worked, and expensive $50 mute switch.

Does this adapter work with the Gopro Hero session?
    Asked by: Jose
We're afraid not. This has a USB-C connection that does not work with the Hero Session. It will work with the Hero5 Session though.

    question

Is there an extension cable out for this? A quality one? One where I can keep this away from the camera s I'll be mounting this on a motorcycle helmet. Powering and with a mic at the same time.
    Asked by: Michael B.
Funny you ask, I'm looking at USB c extension cables also but I haven't found one I'm fond of, in theory any USB c extension cable should do the trick but I can't confirm it yet. The size of this thing is terrible but it does work well, I'm using the rode video me with it. Good luck.

Do I have to use the GoPro brand adapter or can I ...

Do I have to use the GoPro brand adapter or can I use a 3rd party adapter and if so which one?
    Asked by: Jon
When I was doing my research, I found most 3rd Party adapters may work, but most did not. So I went with GoPro. I did not get it for to use an external microphone. I got it so it would mute the camera mic and not feed audio up the HDMI cable. I needed to do this to be able to use audio from a mixer, not get GoPro camera audio when I switched to that camera.

    question

I didnt realize when I bought this to accompany the GoPro 5 that I purchased that it was just an adapter. What kind of mic is suggested to go with this? Or is there a mic I can purchase to connect right to the gopro 5 hero without the adapter?
    Asked by: Kelly G.
I use the Rode VideoMicro Compact On-Camera Microphone. Works fine. I epoxied a shoe to the hard case for the microphone. When I use the wind screen it is visible in wide mode, so I also added a Vello Multi-Function Ball Head with Removable Top & Bottom Shoe Mounts to push the mic out of the shot. All works well.
