    Impact LS-96HABI reviews

    Heavy-Duty Air-Cushioned Light Stand (Black, 9.5') is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 690.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good looking, but won't last I bought two of these due to positive reviews and an attractive price. I guess you get what you pay for. One arrived with a damaged tightening knob, which B&H promptly replaced through their always excellent customer service. These stands look good and function smoothly- I especially like the air-cushioned feature, but they are cheaply made and are certainly not heavy duty. The stands work well with light loads, like a speedlight/umbrella combination, but with a heavier monolight or small boom, the plastic shell that holds the tightening screw will break when sufficient force is applied to keep the stand from collapsing- see photo. I now have two epoxied, barely functional light stands. If you need something for more than very light occasional use, I would suggest you consider something else. (You can't go wrong with C stands.)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent light stand. This light stand is great. The locks are very comfortable to adjust and sturdy. I really like the air cushioning feature as it allows the light to not accidently drop to fast or hard. The hieght of 9.5' is wonderful for me during weddings while using a second off camera speedlight for additional lighting or in the field portraiture. There is more than enough hieght to work with depending on your purpose. The only draw back is that it is not very compact, but for a heavy duty light stand, what should you expect. I also use a 42 in Octobox with it and seems to hold up very well.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A solid safe option For the price these are a good options for a small studio solution. The locking hardware is secure and the construction is solid but far from refined. If you're looking for a stand that is good for constant open close, in and out operation the action you'll get from these will be very disappointing. If you're looking for something that can open and close with little effort and has a better cushioning action you're going to want to spend more. If you want a stand that will hold nearly anything, stand strong and not bust your wallet, these are what you want.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You can't Beat these! I am a Professional Portrait Photographer as well as a Commercial Photography Assistant. I have had 2 of these for 4 years, no problems still work great in studio and on location. I have used C-stands, Norman Stands and many other brands of stands including High Rollers. I like the build of C-stands, but for my style of shooting some times I end up heading out solo, so the weight of these stands is the reason I really like them. I can carry one in each hand with a box and light on each with no problem. The air assist has saved me a few times when my hands slips while raising it or if I want a fast tear down, I can just let lock go and move to another stand as the air cushion slowly lets the light down. They also work great for background stands too. Their black, which makes them look nict. The tubing is thick and study not thin like some of the other stands I've seen and the footprint is plenty with these stands. I typically keep a weight bag on them anyway as you should with any stand. I haven't had any issues with them at all. You can't beat the price for the quality of this stand. I have since built an arsenal of 5 for portraiture as well as adding a 3ft stand for the background light. I was thinking about getting some 13' tall stands but after taking the 9.5 footers up to height and testing them with a background I was satisfied. Maybe in the future I might get some. You can trust this review to be accurate and honest. I have worked with 7 Commercial Photographers and worked alongside many other portrait photographers. If you want a great stand, get some of these! The only thing that I can say, is the bottom foot plugs that come with the stands are held in by pressure. I would take them out and glue them in, I have had one get lost. But I have since replaced it. It would be nice for the couplers to be metal, but in 4 years I haven't had one crack. So its tough fiber plastic, I don't baby them either, i've used them in rain, snow, dirty, water etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nicely robust I hate flimsy stuff, but I also often find C-stands awkward and heavy. I bought a couple of these stands and I am delighted. They are heavy enough for small strobes and a pleasant bit of overkill for speedlights. The feel good and are easy to adjust. I have used them for location work, both indoors and outdoors, to support speedlights with small umbrellas. If these are your first purchase, let me suggest that you also get a sandbag for each stand. The only thing I don't really like is that unfolding the legs is awkward. But I only do that once a shoot, so it's definitely not a deal-killer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product, Especially for the Price! I bought two of these heavy-duty light stands for my studio strobes with large, 60 cm Octoboxes attached. The stands handle the strobes, octoboxes, triggers, etc. with no problem. I even attach a boom to one of the stands to add some reach to my light, and the Impact HD Air-Cushioned Stand handles the job with room to spare. I can completely recommend them, especially at this price. What a bargain! You won't find this kind of quality and reliability for this price anywhere. They are big and somewhat heavy, but they are made for heavy equipment so I expected a big stand. If you need heavy-duty stands, look no further.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not a bad stand for the price For just a few bucks more than the flimsier 8ft, this one is a steal. The air cushioning works but not the best. Impact makes several different sizes of the heavy duty series. If I were to do it again, I would opt for the 13ft one as that would would have a wider leg base. It's not like I would ever use it at the full 13ft, its just nice to have thicker poles and wider base. This 9.5ft did hold up my AB1600 with a 7' PLM. It was a tad wobbly but it held it. Like I said before, this does the job but I should have sprung for the next size up for beefier poles/legs. It might be twice the price but its worth it. Make sure to sand bag this stand down!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Sturdy Tripod Option Pros: I used these with the Impact Octacool 9 lamps (which are fairly front-heavy), and they are sturdy. I have some other Impact stands that are not this solid that came with a smaller tungsten light set. These larger stands are much stronger. Cons: When collapsed, there are a few sections that have space between the hand-clamps which tells me they didn't optimize the pole section lengths as much as they could have. I couldn't get the light down as far as I really wanted to (but it still gets 5 stars because that was my fault for not knowing how low I needed to go before ordering stands).
