Losmandy put together this DC-8 Dovetail Plate Kit for medium-sized 8" aperture Celestron OTAs to enable the use of their heavy-duty dovetail system. The two included blocks are designed to match the OTA's circumference curvature with mounting holes spaced to match standard Celestron spacing. The blocks easily attach to the 14" long Universal Mounting Plate, which has numerous mounting holes that will correspond to most Celestron scopes. This kit comes with all the screws required to mount the blocks onto the OTA and dovetail, with the correct Celestron thread sizes.

The two included blocks are designed to match the OTA's circumference curvature with mounting holes spaced to match standard Celestron spacing. Solid mount

The mount is as solid and assuring. It feels as though it becomes part of the telescope and will not never break. I thought the aluminum mount that came with the telescope felt flimsy and the metal would bend and break. There's nothing like that here. With the solid feeling though comes weight. It's very heavy. My 14 pound telescope increased to close to 20 pounds after adding the finder scope, aluminum plate to the top, and the Losmandy plate on the bottom. The provided front screw didn't fit and I had to go to a hardware store and purchase #8-32x1/2 inch machine screws. I knocked the rating one star because of that.

Expected this to be made of aircraft aluminum rather than iron. More unnecessary weight is not welcome.

Would this work to mount my 8 aperture celestron nexstar 8 OTA to my new celestron advances vx Mount?

The Nexstar scopes already have a Vixen dovetail so nothing extra is needed to mount them to the VX mount.
