Can you see the sun with these during totality? Would they be too dark during totality?
The Celestron 10x42 EclipSmart Solar Binoculars will not be able to see the sun during totality. I would recommend using these non filters binoculars instead: https://bhpho.to/3vgWU3q plus these removeable filters: https://bhpho.to/3FlitRE. This way you can remove the filters for totality and use the binoculars later for normal use.

I really need a front screw in so that I can mount this on a tripod. Any ideas?
I just mounted mine. Was pretty fast and easy. Just remove the cap in front of the focus ring. It's actually a hybrid mount. Binoculars are mounted to a Joby GorillaPod with bulkhead and the GorillaPod is mounted on my tripod. A little cumbersome, but works.

Would you be able to see a transit of Mercury with these?
Not likely. I've read 50X or better magnification is needed.
