Safely view the sun with the Celestron 10x42 EclipSmart Solar Binoculars. Its non-removable glass solar filters meet the ISO12312-2 safety standard for direct observation of the sun and offer protection from IR and UV light while blocking 99.999% of intense visible light. This full-sized version of the EclipSmart is outfitted with a classic Porro prism optical path, larger objectives, and a wide angle of view so you can observe details, such as sunspots, in natural and neutral color tones at a generous 10x magnification. The prism design creates a comfortable and ergonomic feel in the hand, with the optic's center of gravity pulled back over your wrists to reduce fatigue and allowing for longer observation sessions and reduced hand shake.

Can you see the sun with these during totality? Would they be too dark during totality?
The Celestron 10x42 EclipSmart Solar Binoculars will not be able to see the sun during totality. I would recommend using these non filters binoculars instead: https://bhpho.to/3vgWU3q plus these removeable filters: https://bhpho.to/3FlitRE. This way you can remove the filters for totality and use the binoculars later for normal use.

Is this safe for Kids?
Yes, the Celestron 10x42 EclipSmart Solar Binoculars are safe for kids under adult supervision. One needs to make sure to educate them not to look directly at the Sun without proper protection.

question
I really need a front screw in so that I can mount this on a tripod. Any ideas?
I just mounted mine. Was pretty fast and easy. Just remove the cap in front of the focus ring. It's actually a hybrid mount. Binoculars are mounted to a Joby GorillaPod with bulkhead and the GorillaPod is mounted on my tripod. A little cumbersome, but works.

question
Would you be able to see a transit of Mercury with these?
Not likely. I've read 50X or better magnification is needed.
