Manfrotto MVMXPROA4US overview

  • 1Description

The MVMXPROA4US XPRO Video Monopod+ from Manfrotto is a versatile aluminum support equipped with Manfrotto's FLUIDTECH base—a unique monopod foot which allows for fluid pans and tilts normally unachievable on a standard photo monopod.

A handy tool for nearly any videographer or filmmaker, a monopod can often travel places tripods cannot, providing additional stability and supporting heavy equipment when required. The MVMXPROA4US features a 4-section design which, when paired with its aluminum construction, results in an easy-to-transport design weighing just 2.6 lb. With a maximum height of 75.6" and a minimum height of just 26.8", the MVMXPROA4US can be adjusted to suit users of varying heights and for various different tasks.

While the design of a monopod is relatively simple the Manfrotto Monopod+ line utilizes some innovative features which make using the MVMXPROA4US fast and easy. The primary feature of the line is the inclusion of Manfrotto's patented Power-Lock flip locks which snap open and closed to ensure fast operation and a tight, unyielding lock. The D-shaped leg sections have been designed not only to compliment the Power-Locks but also to prevent unwanted twisting between leg sections and increase the stability of the monopod.

The integrated FLUIDTECH base utilizes a "3D" fluid cartridge which facilitates smooth pans and tilts from a single connection point. The cartridge may be locked vertically to isolate movement to only the 360° panning axis, allowing for smooth, level, uninterrupted rotation. While engaging the vertical lock may allow the monopod to stand, it does not support free-standing function and should not be left unattended when not in use.

Additionally, the Monopod+ line also features Manfrotto's standard rubber leg warmer for an improved grip and an adjustable hand strap for extra security. A 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting thread is placed at the top of the monopod in the center of the baseplate, allowing users to either, direct mount a camera or lens, or use an articulating head if required.

    Manfrotto MVMXPROA4US reviews

MVMXPROA4US Aluminum XPRO Video Monopod+ is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Amazing, Fun to use! This Manfrotto monopod with adjustable feet is amazing! The construction like other Manfrotto products is quite sturdy. All the clamps are easily manageable and secure. The monopod is slightly heavy but definitely worth it. It is a pleasure to use. the base locks in place serving as a quick 'tripod'. I use a Canon 5D Mark IV with a 24-105 L lens on a Manfrotto 234RC tilt head and 502HD ProVideo Head. The monopod has no issues supporting this setup. However I must note; be careful if you are outdoors and its windy. The setup will surely fall over without hesitation. The price is a bit high in comparison to other models and manufacturers in the same category. I will simply say- I do not regret this purchase at all. I absolutely love this monopod.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good engineering, but a little big, needs tighter rotation As with most things Manfrotto, this is a sturdy and well-built piece of kit. I got it to use mainly for nature shooting with big lenses, shooting video at various events, and helping me heft my 70-200 2.8 for the entire length of basketball games. However, there are a couple of things I'd change about it. First, it's too tall. I wish that it was under 22 collapsed, so that it would fit in carry-on luggage. As it is, somebody 7 feet tall could easily use this at eye level. I'm nearly six feet tall, and when I'm standing I keep one of the segments collapsed and another one partially collapsed a couple of inches. There's just no need for that extra height and weight. Take out a segment, or better yet make each segment shorter, so I could fit it in a piece of carry-on, and it would suit me better. Second, the rotator resistance is too weak. One of the things I need a monopod with legs for is to keep my long lenses from shifting (almost a vibration, wildlife shooters will know what I mean) left and right when I'm shooting wildlife. This helps with that a little, but not much. Even when shooting video, I could use a lot more resistance to make things smooth.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Be Careful Mine broke the 3rd time I used it. Great construction except for the plastic piece they used to connect the monopod to the stand. It has a flexible base, but if you use it to create motion be careful because this plastic will snap quickly. Really disapointed this piece was not made of aluminum as well, very cheap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Videographer's FIRST investment, right after the camera. As a (mostly) photographer, I never quite understood the purpose of monopods, other than portability. When I started getting video work, I invested in an expensive fluid head and even a gimbal before upgrading my old flimsy monopod. This should have been my first buy! With the smooth ball joint at the bottom, it's super easy to get stable, yet subtly moving shots, even pans to a certain extend. Sturdy and lightweight, this is my grab-and-go tool for any situation. The double-purpose screw on top allows for the installation of the camera directly, or an additional head. When using the narrower, inner thread to mount a camera, things can get a little finicky, so I am leaving a quick release shoe on at all times. The guy on the floor at B&H who sold me this was a walking tripod encyclopedia! Very helpful and thorough. Even warned me of possible dust problems, which so far have not appeared, and made sure I understood never to leave the camera on the monopod unattended, even with with the ball joint fixed. One gust of wind, and ... bye bye to thousands of dollars. But with one hand firmly on the rugged rubber grip, you'll achieve great shots with a tiny footprint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Video Monopod around This mono is perfect for video. The upgraded footing makes it even better than the previous version. Love the solid metal construction of the footing as opposed to the plastic pieces in the earlier models.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "The" monopod Great craftsmanship as expected from Manfrotto, lightweight, easy to extend with the quick to use snap locks. The fluid pan provide by base cartridge is smooth, the feet are very stable and the small features, as textured grip and dual mounting threads, make this a must have!
