Manfrotto XPRO Overview

The MVMXPROA4US XPRO Video Monopod+ from Manfrotto is a versatile aluminum support equipped with Manfrotto's FLUIDTECH base—a unique monopod foot which allows for fluid pans and tilts normally unachievable on a standard photo monopod.

A handy tool for nearly any videographer or filmmaker, a monopod can often travel places tripods cannot, providing additional stability and supporting heavy equipment when required. The MVMXPROA4US features a 4-section design which, when paired with its aluminum construction, results in an easy-to-transport design weighing just 2.6 lb. With a maximum height of 75.6" and a minimum height of just 26.8", the MVMXPROA4US can be adjusted to suit users of varying heights and for various different tasks.

While the design of a monopod is relatively simple the Manfrotto Monopod+ line utilizes some innovative features which make using the MVMXPROA4US fast and easy. The primary feature of the line is the inclusion of Manfrotto's patented Power-Lock flip locks which snap open and closed to ensure fast operation and a tight, unyielding lock. The D-shaped leg sections have been designed not only to compliment the Power-Locks but also to prevent unwanted twisting between leg sections and increase the stability of the monopod.

The integrated FLUIDTECH base utilizes a "3D" fluid cartridge which facilitates smooth pans and tilts from a single connection point. The cartridge may be locked vertically to isolate movement to only the 360° panning axis, allowing for smooth, level, uninterrupted rotation. While engaging the vertical lock may allow the monopod to stand, it does not support free-standing function and should not be left unattended when not in use.

Additionally, the Monopod+ line also features Manfrotto's standard rubber leg warmer for an improved grip and an adjustable hand strap for extra security. A 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting thread is placed at the top of the monopod in the center of the baseplate, allowing users to either, direct mount a camera or lens, or use an articulating head if required.

Its doesnt feel like $225

It feels cheap and fragile compared to my sirui sup204sr. Dont get me wrong, it doesnt feel like itll break easily but for the price i thought it would be a bit sturdier feeling. I also dont lkke how you cant adjust the tension on the foot so that you can control your tilts better. But at the end of the day i needed a taller monopod than the sirui so this will have to do.

as good as you think it would be

Very well built, and works great with the 504 fluid head on it. This will improve your video capture dramatically and allows you to be very mobile and move with the action. Can quick-set your shot and start rolling almost immediately.

Pretty good monopod except for the base mount

Its a pretty good monopod overall. I didn't buy it for video, I bought it for photography. The monopod feels solid in use, and its easy to pack and deploy. My only complaint is that the base screws into the monopod and that it is so tight from the factory that you have to use a wrench to remove it, and that's not something you typically carry in the field. Also, that leaves the potential for it to work loose over time and become unstable. On the flip side, that also allows for it to seize up someday too. That is a design flaw that Manfrotto needs to correct.

I use it for stills

While a slightly unusual application, this monopod certainly can handle the weight of the Ronin S and camera.

this monopod be used with a Manfrotto 504HD Fluid Video Head?
Asked by: Anonymous
The Manfrotto 504HD Fluid Video Head does not come in a flat base. Even if it did, it would be too big. We suggest the Manfrotto 502AH Pro Video Head with Flat Base B&H # MAMVH502AH as the biggest this monopod could take.

Can this monopod be used with Manfrotto MVH500AH video head?
Asked by: Cezary B.
Yes is can. The monopod has a 3/8 -16 attachment point available on top, which will screw into the 3/8 -16 female thread on the bottom of the MVH500AH.

What is the length of the monopod without the base? Wondering about it's portability and if taking the base off makes it easier to fit on a carry on.
Asked by: Erik
The base doesn't come off on this model
