Manfrotto XPRO MVMXPROC5US Overview

The MVMXPROC5US XPRO Video Monopod+ from Manfrotto is a versatile carbon fiber support equipped with Manfrotto's FLUIDTECH base—a unique monopod foot which allows for fluid pans and tilts normally unachievable on a standard photo monopod.

A handy tool for nearly any videographer or filmmaker, a monopod can often travel places tripods cannot, providing additional stability and supporting heavy equipment when required. The MVMXPROC5US features a 5-section design which, when paired with its carbon fiber construction, results in an easy-to-transport design weighing just 2.2 lb. With a maximum height of 74" and a minimum height of just 23.8", the MVMXPROC5US can be adjusted to suit users of varying heights and for various different tasks.

While the design of a monopod is relatively simple the Manfrotto Monopod+ line utilizes some innovative features which make using the MVMXPROC5US fast and easy. The primary feature of the line is the inclusion of Manfrotto's patented Power-Lock flip locks which snap open and closed to ensure fast operation and a tight, unyielding lock. The D-shaped leg sections have been designed not only to compliment the Power-Locks but also to prevent unwanted twisting between leg sections and increase the stability of the monopod.

The integrated FLUIDTECH base utilizes a "3D" fluid cartridge which facilitates smooth pans and tilts from a single connection point. The cartridge may be locked vertically to isolate movement to only the 360° panning axis, allowing for smooth, level, uninterrupted rotation. While engaging the vertical lock may allow the monopod to stand, it does not support free-standing function and should not be left unattended when not in use.

Additionally, the Monopod+ line also features Manfrotto's standard rubber leg warmer for an improved grip and an adjustable hand strap for extra security. A 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting thread is placed at the top of the monopod in the center of the baseplate, allowing users to either, direct mount a camera or lens, or use an articulating head if required.

Be Aware - Fatal Flaw in Design

We have purchased two of these over the last three years. We really like the versatility and functionality - BUT there is a flaw in these monopods. Both of these - the aluminum and the carbon fiber - have broken in the exact same place for no real reason other than normal usage. When the second one broke we decided to take it apart. I was shocked to see that at this price this monopod relies on such a small point of failure. The entire base assembly is held in place with a single aluminum bolt that is barely 3/16 in diameter. The entire load on this monopod goes directly down into the 3 leg base through this bolt. If this were made of stainless steel or titanium it would make more sense but aluminum is not what I would have used for a critical point like this. I have reached out to Manfrotto on 3 different occasions to try and get a replacement bolt - but yet to get a response. So if you are considering this be aware you too may experience the same failure.

Great tool

I needed a monopod that would be easy to travel with and this breaks down nicely into my carry on bag.

Don’t know specifically about Manfrotto cases. I bought from BH a Ruggard Tripod case for it. They come in various lengths and are of superior quality compared to cases supplied with name brand items. I have all my lenses stored in Ruggard cases. Quality ! And I don’t work for Ruggard or BH Photo....

question

It says that the foot connector MVMXPROBASEUS is 1/4 20 and I am just curious if I can use a Kessler Kwik plate to ensure rapid detachment of the legs for storage?
Asked by: Nicholas
The MVMXPROC5US has a 1/4 -20 and 3/8 -16 connection at the top which will allow you to attach a quick release system directly to it. You will be able to mount B&H #KEMG1001 to this monopod.

Asked by: Adi
You can use it for a camcorder but you would certainly want to use a fluid pan head with it. Click the link below to view some options; https://bhpho.to/2Vbmwto

question

Can one remove the base legs and use as a single leg monopod?
Asked by: Craig
Yes, the base legs can be easily removed. They simply screw off. The monopod comes with a rubber cap to use when the legs are removed. This monopod is a significant improvement over the previous Manfrotto video monopod.
