Apple MacBook Pro overview

  • 1Description

Experience the innovative interface of the Touch Bar in the late 2016 space gray Apple 13.3" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar.

The Touch Bar places controls right at your fingertips and adapts to different apps to provide useful functions without having to navigate complex menus or memorize keyboard shortcuts. Replacing the function keys in the top row of the keyboard, the Touch Bar features a Retina-quality display and supports multi-touch input.

The power button has been upgraded with a Touch ID sensor, so you can quickly log into your MacBook Pro using your fingerprint. You can also use Touch ID to make purchases over the web, thanks to Apple Pay. Touch ID enables a quick, accurate reading of your fingerprint and uses sophisticated algorithms to recognize and match it with the Secure Enclave in the Apple T1 chip.

The system features a 2.9 GHz Intel Core i5 dual-core processor, 8GB of 2133 MHz LPDDR3 onboard memory, a 256GB PCIe-based SSD, four Thunderbolt 3 (USB Type-C) ports, a 46% larger Force Touch trackpad, a keyboard with a 2nd-gen butterfly mechanism, stereo speakers with double the dynamic range of its predecessor as well as improved bass, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 wireless technology, and even a 3.5mm headphone jack. macOS Sierra is the installed operating system.

Touch Bar
The Touch Bar replaces the function keys that have long occupied the top of your keyboard with something much more versatile and capable. The multi-touch, Retina-quality display changes automatically based on what you're doing, from showing traditional system controls, such as volume and brightness, to more directly interacting with or browsing through content. Intelligent typing features like emoji and predictive text improve the typing experience, and you'll be able to customize the Touch Bar to fit your needs. The Touch Bar can also adapt to apps, such as Mail, Safari, Messages, and even third-party apps like Adobe Photoshop, so you'll have access to useful functions previously hidden in menus.
Touch ID
A Touch ID sensor has been integrated into the power button, so you can quickly log into your account, even when another user is logged in. You can also use it with Apple Pay to securely purchase things over the web, thanks to macOS Sierra.
Retina Display
The 13.3" Retina Display with a 2560 x 1600 resolution features brighter LED backlighting than its predecessor as well as an increased contrast ratio, delivering deeper blacks and brighter whites. Its larger pixel aperture and variable refresh rate make it more power efficient than previous generations. It also supports the P3 color gamut, which allows for more vibrant colors. This ensures true-to-life pictures with realistically vivid details, which are essential for graphic design, color grading, and editing.
Force Touch Trackpad
The Force Touch trackpad on the 13.3" MacBook Pro is 46% larger than the previous generation. The Force Touch trackpad takes all the capabilities of multi-touch and adds force sensors that detect subtle differences in the amount of downward pressure you apply. This lets you have a deeper connection to your content, bringing more functionality right to your fingertip. It also introduces haptic feedback to MacBook Pro — allowing you not just to see what's happening on the screen, but to feel it. With multi-touch, you can use realistic gestures like swiping or pinching to switch between apps, navigate your content, and get the most out of your desktop space.
Thunderbolt 3
Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes the reversible USB Type-C connector. Doubling the speed of its predecessor, Thunderbolt 3 features a maximum throughput of 40 Gb/s when used with compatible devices. The connector also transmits data via USB 3.1 at up to 10 Gb/s, and dual-bandwidth DisplayPort 1.2 allows you to connect up to two 4K displays simultaneously or one multi-panel 5K display. The Macbook Pro has four ports, with each pair using a dedicated bus.
Thinner & Lighter
The 13.3" MacBook Pro features a redesigned enclosure design and all-metal unibody construction that creates a rigid and dense notebook that is also thin and light. At just 14.9 mm thin, the 13.3" MacBook Pro is 17 percent thinner and has 23 percent less volume than the previous generation. It is also nearly half a pound lighter at just four pounds.
Audio
The speakers have been totally redesigned to provide as much as twice the dynamic range and up to 58 percent more volume, with two-and-a-half-times louder bass for maximum boom. Plus, they're connected directly to system power, enabling up to three times more peak power.
macOS Sierra
The MacBook Pro runs macOS Sierra, which features Siri integration, Universal Clipboard, Apple Pay on the web, and memories in Photos.

    Apple MacBook Pro reviews

13.3" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar (Late 2016, Space Gray) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 118.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Design Purchased this for upgrade from my 2010 MacBook Pro which was still functioning like new. On the surface the 2016 model seems to be lacking in innovation compared to 2010 model with no MagSafe charger, LED external indicator lights precision milled to blend into the aluminum unibody, etc. Closer examination shows futuristic thought and strength in detail. Often with Apple you have to trust in their out-of-the-box design and simply take a leap of faith. I'm glad I did as this MacBook Pro is certainly a work of art to be admired daily.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Battery Dies in 3 Hours Love B&H and have been a loyal customer for years but this new Apple product is a dud and should be on full recall. There is a ton of info on the web about the poor battery life issue and wish I researched it better before experiencing it myself. The computer itself is fantastic but the Touch Bar drains the battery dead within 3 to 4 hours. Ended up returning the item as a defect and purchased the new 2016 base model MacBook Pro 13 Apple needs to rectify this issue suggest buying any other model to avoid the hassle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is how you upgrade! I was working off an 8 year old MacBook Air that was literally coming apart at the seams. Upgraded to this bad boy and so far loving everything about it. The screen is glorious. The touch bar - well, wasn't sure if I needed it, and now I'm so glad I have it. It's not a gimmick... I'm using it all the time. Love the space gray color. The keyboard is perfect and somehow I feel like I can type faster on it. Overall, I've found a new best friend here. (Just don't tell my wife, children or dog)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A great product with an affordable price It's a nice device made by Asus: fast, stable, with some useful softwares. I still hadn't chance to test it with a game because it takes a long time to download from Microsoft Store. Battery doesn't last for a long time (maximum 2 hours using Roblox and Minecraft Java games). For an expensive hardware, I would like Asus or NVidia serve their customers with a free game to test all capabilities of this notebook.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reviewed once, but doing this under verified purchase I've had this machine for a month now, and the battery life is incredible. I had my worries when I first got it, but now it just sails along with no issues. I can put it to sleep at 100 percent, come back 8 hours later, and no movement. It's fast. Nothing I throw at this machine will slow it down. I'm still getting used to the OS coming from Windows, but outside of that it's so compact and nice that it fits my needs perfectly. I thought 13 could be too small, but I was wrong. It's perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Computer The MacBook Pro is a superb computer. It is light, fast has a very fine screen and a first class track pad. I have always been disappointed by trackpads in Windows 10 computers--many are okay but none match the sensitivity and speed of the Mac trackpad. I have not used the toolbar much but it too is very smooth and will no doubt be more useful for some apps rather than others. This Pro also has 4 usb c ports--two on each side. This makes charging while sitting and using the computer easy since one can attach a cable to any of the ports for a charge. The absence of other ports is not of a big concern since dongles abound.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keeps getting better...who needs a desk top?? Purchased the latest MacBook Pro 13.3 with touch bar to replace a 2013 MBP which is going to my daughter. Loves: Lightning fast, instant on with Touch ID, beautiful screen, much better keyboard, vastly better touchpad. Very good battery life. Lighter and thinner. Still getting used to virtual touch bar but it seems intuitive and easy to use (makes it very easy to navigate photos). Also like how the Lightning Bolt 3s lock in cables, and any can be used for power. Wishes: USB slot, SD Card reader (had to purchase adaptors for both). Very happy with purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible Not sure about those who are unsatisfied, but I switched from last years model to this years with the touch bar. Wow, the computer is incredible. Smooth as silk, faster, thin, light and solid. The touch bar will become far more useful as the world adapts. I believe all the negative stuff out there will change their opinions over the next 6 months. Also the touch pad is again like running your finger over silk. And the screen, never have I seen such a beautiful screen. For me, I am not sure how Apple can better this in 3-4 years. I can tell you I will be extremely happy with this one until then. Simply put, it's a 10.
