SeaLife DC2000 overview

  • 1Description

Capture the beauty of the world beneath the surface at depths as great as 200' with the DC2000 Digital Underwater Camera from SeaLife. This compact, waterproof point-and-shoot is protected by a rubber-armored housing that allows it to withstand rough handling and tough environments. A 20MP, 1" Sony BSI CMOS image sensor produces sharp, detailed photos and Full HD 1080p video at 60 fps.

The DC2000's fast f/1.8 lens helps you achieve effective low-light shots with shallow depth of field. In addition to JPEG images, the camera can capture RAW photos to give you much more image data to work with in the editing process. As an extra bonus, the picture-in-video feature allows you to capture still images while recording Full HD movies. Available exposure modes on the camera include Programmed Auto (P), Shutter Priority (S), Aperture Priority (A), and Manual (M), as well as 4 underwater scene modes with built-in color correction and 25 land scene modes. Additionally, the DC2000 is capable of continuous burst shooting at 8 fps to help you catch fast action, as well as time-lapse shooting to show change over a given period of time. Enjoy the convenience of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity for wireless image transfer.

    SeaLife DC2000 reviews

DC2000 Digital Underwater Camera is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hamstrung camera... Like the housing and the idea. I've bought this unit for an upcoming visit to the islands. I own lots of cameras and a few UW housings for a Canon 5D mark III. I purchased this camera in hopes of downsizing a rig for free-diving and scuba. I was very interested in a unit that could shoot RAW with a decent sensor. The images from this unit are good, not great. The settings make this camera crippled in some very key aspects. All scene setting ONLY shoot in jpeg. If you switch to a semi control setting (A, S, or M) you can get it to shoot RAW. The kicker is RAW images take close to 5 seconds to process and be ready for the next shot. This is a deal breaker if your free diving or shooting a fast moving object. Jpegs are a bit faster but the image quality suffers. And I have spent money on a really fast card, it makes no difference... the RAW process lag is insufferable. What I'd suggest to the manufacturers is taking out all the setting that are included to make this camera an all-arounder and really make this the UW camera that they sell it as. Face recognition? Night scenes? Smile detector? Non-sense settings that a UW photographer doesn't need. If your serious about an underwater camera I'm sure you already have tons of PS and DSLRs that can easily fill those needs. Eliminate all this and work on RAW logistics... then it might be the UW camera your looking for.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Big improvement, but still needs development Huge improvement over the DC1200, which was so slow to focus and expose as to be useless. The DC2000 is definitely fast enough in this regard. I was warned about the excessive length of time it takes to store away a RAW image. I can vouch that it's pretty quick with JPG only, but the RAW takes too long. Some definite opportunity for improvement. Make sure you know there is no zoom to the lens. Prime FL only. I find this not to be a big disappointment in an underwater camera. There is a bug in the software when shooting RAW and the memory card is empty. The camera hangs forever and is unresponsive to all buttons. The claim is that firmware version 1.01 fixes this problem, but that claim is false. There is a beta version 1.04 that does seem to fix the problem, plus several other minor glitches, and so far I recommend downloading and installing 1.04. The download and update procedure is straightforward and worked the first time. Thanks, SeaLife, for some well-written instructions. Shouldn't there be a battery charger available? No, you have to charge the battery IN THE CAMERA with the sealed door open. It makes owning a second battery pretty useless for a two-tank dive. A little bit of product development here, please, SeaLife. I have not yet tried the fancy BlueTooth or WiFi connectivity yet. But a cable connect to my computer worked just fine for offloading photos. No issues at all.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great all around camera - but not for everyone The camera has a 1" sensor, is waterproof to 60 feet (not 6), and fits into a back pocket of my shorts. It downloads (with some difficulty) to my Android smart phone, and should download to an I-Phone. So what is there not to like? The fixed 35mm lens. The only way to "zoom" is with your feet. This can be difficult while on a boat watching whales. That is why I did not give it the final 5th star. Despite that limitation, it is with me as my "go to camera"
