Designed to provide a personalized hi-fi listening experience, the Sony TA-ZH1ES is a headphone amplifier with a digital-analog hybrid-amplifier circuit. This circuit is intended to preserving digital integrity while simultaneously converting signal into pleasurable, analog sound.
The unit features much in the way of inputs and outputs, giving you support for anything from televisions to gaming consoles—not to mention USB inputs, standard 3.5mm headphone jacks, and a 4.4mm balanced output. Under the hood, the TA-ZH1ES offers proprietary non-feedback S-Master technology. Also provided is a digital conversion stage with an analog feed-forward amp. The device uses advanced FPGA processing to make sure these elements work at their utmost potential, giving you a highly detailed and highly faithful sonic experience.
The TA-ZH1ES is capable of playing DSD native and DSD DoP formats, as well as traditional PCM files. In fact, using the remastering engine, you can convert any PCM into DSD up to 11.2 MHz. Further sweetening the audio, DSEE HX upscaling technology allows you to preserve every nuance of the signal you're remastering. Many more features abound, such as the acoustically tuned panel for eliminating resonances, an on-board DC phase linearizer for reproducing the analog listening experience, and signal correction for high-impedance headphones.

This device supports PCM playback up to 385 kHz / 32-bit, DSD DoP up to 11.2 MHz / 1-bit, and DSD native up to 22.4 MHz / 1-bit.
Proprietary Technology for Digital Amplification
Sony's proprietary non-feedback S-Master technology aims to maintain the purity of dynamic digital sound. The DA hybrid amplifier is intended to enhance precision and sound quality with an analog feed-forward amp, while the analog amplifier corrects the errors caused by switching amplification.
High impedance headphones require high power; however, this can create a difference between the actual and ideal signal, so the analog amplifier can correct these signal deficiencies for a cleaner, more natural sound.
DSEE HX Upscaling Technology
DSEE HX upscaling technology is intended to preserve every nuance of sonic material fed into the TA-ZH1ES, and features five modes: standard, female vocal, male vocal, percussion and strings.
Advanced FPGA Processing
To maximize the abilities of the new D.A. Hybrid Amplifier Circuit, the amplifier was designed with an advanced FPGA processor, allowing Sony to customize their circuitry for the particular demands of high-fidelity signal conversion.
Convert Any Source to DSD
Offering double the conversion accuracy of Sony's previous models, the new DSD Remastering Engine let you convert any PCM music source into DSD, 11.2 MHz. The technology uses an FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) to convert any signal into the DSD sound format.
On-Board DC Phase Linearizer
An on-board DC Phase Linearizer works to effectively replicate a wide variety of sonic signatures. It applies digital-signal processing to match the phase characteristics of various types of analog amplifiers to deliver a sound more typical of the analog experience.
Rugged and Durable
The TA-ZH1ES features a dual-layered base-plate to ensure rigidity, as well as a low center of gravity. This added protection has further benefits for sound quality.
Isolation with FBW Chassis
A rigid FBW Chassis has been designed to isolate the circuit board from vibration. By minimizing vibration and preventing lateral movement, noise is reduced for a cleaner, purer sound. The wall-structure is made from a large aluminum block to maintain rigidity.
Acoustically Tuned Panel for Eliminating Resonance
The headphone amplifier's top panel is made from a combination of steel and aluminum. These materials each have their own resonance frequency, and when used in combination, they suppress each other. The result is the effective elimination of unnecessary resonance.
Various Inputs and Outputs
The amp features several terminals to support a variety of input devices, including Walkman, TVs, and PlayStation consoles. The amp uses a variety of headphone output connections, including both balanced (two 3.5mm mini plugs and an XLR4 jack) and unbalanced (3.5mm stereo standard plug, stereo mini plug).
