Westcott Apollo 43" Silver Reviews

Westcott Deep Silver Umbrella Pushes Light

I have two 43 silver (and the diffusion covers.) They do exactly what I want, which is to push light a little further, brighter and a tighter than a regular umbrella. They are well built and have a nice carrying case. If you are shopping for your first umbrellas, jump straight to the Westcott deep umbrellas. If you have a silver and the diffusion layer (an extra $ but worth it) you have a great go-to light modifier combination.

A solid, durable umbrella. It casts a very even light and I'm finding the reflective silver especially fun for any gel work. Would recommend!

Will this work in remote/commander mode (Nikon/SB910) or will I need a sync cable?
Asked by: Robert P.
According to Westcott, the Remote mode for the Nikon SB-910 will still respond to the Commander even when the flash is installed into the softbox

Are there any CFL fixtures that will work with this? Looking for this to pull double duty for stills as well as video. I know the D5 will fit in the orb, looking to put a continuous light in here as well.

question

On the Westcott website it states that the maximum wattage is 300 for this umbrella. If I use a 600W strobe at full power will this damage the umbrella?
Asked by: Anthony N.
Anthony,The Wattage rating is for continuous lighting. Strobes are rated in Watt-Seconds. Your Strobe will work fine with the Umbrella.

question

Would this work nicely on the AD600 and AD200?
Asked by: Thanh D.
This Medium Apollo will pair nicely with the AD200. I would suggest using it with the bare bulb in a rear facing position to maximize the spread of light in the modifier. The size of the AD600 and therefore the fit inside the box may not make it ideal unless you use the accessory H600b remote head.
