    Panasonic DMW-BGGH5 reviews

DMW-BGGH5 Battery Grip is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Trick is in the method. Alright, you want to buy this to shoot longer right? The only thing to to tell the camera to draw from the battery grip first, and then the internal battery. When the grip runs dry, the camera automatically switches to the internal battery. Immediately slip a new battery into the grip and the camera automatically switches back to the grip. I shot five hours using this method two days ago and never interrupted my shooting. WARNING: If you set the camera to use the internal battery first, the camera will die as soon as the internal battery is dead. Then you'll have to take the grip off and replace the internal battery. As long as you know the routine, the grip is great.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Can't hot swap batteries while recording I come from Nikon and while we are recording videos we can pull the battery out of the grip to replace it and the camera will keep running off the other battery. We try to keep the battery in the camera fully charged and never swap it out. If you pull the battery out of this grip the camera will shut off and then turn back on a couple seconds later. This almost defeats the purpose of having 2 batteries. I've read that you can swap the battery once the camera automatically switches over to the in camera battery but that is still really annoying because sometimes I have a fresh battery in my hand and I want to swap it right then.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Can't mount it on a leans This is so close to being fantastic but it's got a fatal flaw. The mounting screw is offset so far to one side that you can't put it on a tripod without the weight of the camera and lens tilting it to one side...even on my heavy duty video tripod. I totally don't get how this happens. If you aren't going to use a tripod, you'll love it. Bad design if you do use a tripod.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful 1/4in mount positioning The 1/4 inch tripod mounting thread is not aligned. I tried to use it with my manfrotto 501PL quick release plate. It is literally on the opposite side of the lens. Balancing my GH5 on my glidecam with this grip is impossible. I can't even set it down on a table without it toppling diagonally on my lens. Panasonic needs to fix this battery grip. Photos attached.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Didn't work well for my video shooting needs Looks and feels just like the GH5. Easy to attach and remove between shots. I purchased to do vertical video shooting, however it didn't work well for my purposes. The angle of the shutter button prevents low angle shooting. Also, it would be nice to be able to mount the camera on a tripod, vertically, but there are no screw holes to do so. Overall, I'd say this is an excellent add-on for photography, but not as useful for vertical video shooting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Easy to Use The design is great. I like how I can keep the configuration of the camera body and simply add this on without having to remove a door or any parts. Very easy to use and helps with holding the camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good extra power source. I was shooting all day and this BG save the day for the shoot. Extra battery can save the day. this one did.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality, design and purpose. I received my DMW-BGGH5 battery grip today and find it's design excellent in every respect. I've shot various Nikons with battery grips since my D200 and Lumix for the last several years. The sometime-questioned placement for the 1/4 -20 is answered by it's purposeful design I believe. As the product description says, the grip mounting is designed primarily for vertical shooting. And, in that respect, the grip works wonderfully. Very happy to have purchased.
