Fun light show, inaccurate dB levels

As others have said, the light show is fun. And Bright! I would prefer the LEDs not light up in horizontal pairs, but I'm getting used to it. Where the unit really fails is audio level measurement. I adjusted it for 0dB, and that measures reliably. Anything under 0dB, however, is significantly lower than it should be. Even moderately loud audio won't trigger any LEDs. I have to increase the level of the Input signal to get even the -57dB LEDs to light. If you want to use it with audio on the soft side, or with a wide dynamic range, you'll be disappointed. I bought it for the lightshow and I'm mostly satisfied with that. Not satisfied with the dB level inaccuracy. Firmware update maybe???

Inexpensive and does the job

We installed this near the sound desk as a big visible vu meter of the output of audio going to our livestream. It works quite well and doesn't seem to add any noise to the system (or if it does, its negligible enough to not matter once the audio is compressed to the livestream). Plus, its 5x cheaper than anything else like it!

I need to use a dB meter while attached to something like a selfie stick. Can I turn it on, and the hold the unit about 4 feet away from me and still have it get a reading, without constantly pressing down on a button?

This unit would not be appropriate for your requirements, because it is made to go into a rack with a sound system, and runs off of AC power. I would consider a portable dB meter, such as the Galaxy Audio CM-130 CHECK MATE - Battery Operated SPL Meter, BH #GACM130.

The DB Display MKII has RCA inputs and outputs, as well as XLR inputs and outputs. The RCA connections will most likely be the easiest to use for connecting it with your receiver.
