Combine a 3-axis electronic gyroscopic stabilizer with a classic handheld platform and add a smartphone and GoPro clips, and you get the Steadicam Volt. With the combination of an inertia-based stabilization device and an electronic gyroscope with haptic feedback, the Volt is a platform that is easy to balance while providing natural camera motion akin to larger and heavier stabilization platforms. The arced balancing design folds down for easy transport.

The Volt is powered with two included rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, and since these batteries only operate the gyroscope, a properly balanced Volt can still operate manually after the batteries drain. While the electronics are operating, you can use the app to configure the gyroscopic operation for tuning in one of two ways. Sport mode is enabled by default and employs inertia in panning movements. Movie mode employs inertia in both pan and tilt movements for more traditional Steadicam-style shooting. A charger, USB charging cable, balance weights, and a carry pouch are included.

Lightweight folding design enables easy storage and transportation
Accompanying smartphone app allows for precise balance and tuning
Haptic control utilizes Simulated Inertia dual operating modes for beginners and experienced users
Accommodates phone sizes with or without case from 3.5 to 8.8 ounces in weight and 2.3 to 3.3 inches wide.
Also accommodates GoPro HERO3, HERO3+, HERO4, and HERO5 Black action cameras via included 3-prong clip.
Works in manual mode even after the batteries are depleted

Volt is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yes, I like it (the Volt) I give it a rating of 4.5 The Volt is my second Steadicam. I owned a Steadicam JR in the 1990’s. The Volt is better than its predecessors in two ways: 1) The weight is about 1 pound (1.7 with a phone). 2)A “gyro”like electronic stabilization that works, with both heavy and lite modes. These benefits allow for freer motion while shooting ,with less fatigue. Setup and balancing are simple if you watch the setup video and read the short PDF manual. There is a sequence to be followed, with detail listed in the PDF manual.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does wonder for the video I use my Samsung S6 with the Volt and the resulting videos almost make me feel like a pro. Usually, videos on a smartphone are a pain to look at, especially on a big screen. But Volt makes such a big difference that it's hard to comprehend that this is still the same smartphone camera. Setting up is relatively easy, but calls for very precise adjustments. Getting the hang of using the device takes some time and even after using Volt for 2 weeks I'm still learning. It is not simply a one hand operation, sometimes one has to use the other hand to steer the camera in the right direction. This is definitely not a wind-resistant device, but still better than having no help to make videos less jittery. Volt folds easily and only takes about 15 seconds to unfold and get ready for action.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great improvement over the Smoothie or Curve It took a bit of effort to get it balanced the first time but once set it was easy to reset it if I add a Zoom iq7 or Rode mic. Yes! unlike its predecessors you can balance it with an external mic on a iPhone. Also unlike the Smoothie it does not gently sway if you walk with it. I bought it for a trip and it will take up much less room in a bag since it folds down. I have yet to try it with a GoPro but I have no doubt that it will not roll side to side when moving like the Curve tended to do. Yes I am sure with a lot more practice I would have had better luck with the earlier Steadicams but that is what makes this one so much better—it is easy to use. My only issue is that it to balance side to side you push the phone back and forth in the holder. It takes very little to get it off balance. Also the Smoothie did have a custom holder for some iPhone models. This is a one size fits all. But like I said, you can now use an external mic and it is pretty easy to balance it by setting it off center. Just remember to turn it off when handing it to someone else. Otherwise the handle does a wild spin.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for capturing those everyday moments I'm a new Dad, and I wanted a stabilizer to be able to capture those every day moments around the house and on vacation. I followed the instruction video which was very informative, and I was up and running in minutes. It definitely is the preferred way for setup. I just love the natural look this thing produces. I had played with some other stabilizers, but didn't like the robotic movements they produced. I just felt like I have more control with the Volt, which is great since I'm using it primarily to chase my kids and dog around the house filming home videos. I'm excited to take this guy on vacation and give it a whirl. Love the fact that it folds up and can fit in my backpack no problem. Bonus is the fact that I can use it even if the battery dies... love that.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Broken I tried 2 of these things (one of them exchanged) and I can't say I was too impressed. Each time the whole rig lists to the side about 2-3 degrees. I did everything I could to make it work to no avail; running it for 5 min to prime it up, trying to force the rig to save settings, updating firmware, etc; nothing worked. Customer service on Tiffen's side had tips that didn't work, and after the first correspondence, they never got back to me. Not worth your time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delivers on the expectation... As an original funder of this project on Kickstarter, I was really intrigued by the electronic stabilization, apparent simplicity of design, and straight forward application to get a good result. After waiting for what seemed like an eternity, it finally arrived. The unit and all it's component parts were well protected by the packaging and it was a very nice consideration to have included the USB cord and a dust cover/carrying bag. Setup, as guided by the instruction manual, for the most part, was easy to do. I initially was puzzled by the 'Button Clearance Pads' that were included but found the explanation buried at the bottom of a page under 'Balancing'. I am using my Volt with an iPhone 6 and those pads might be needed if you have a smaller phone. Also, I found the plastic clip on the support brace to be hard to snap onto the arc...a concern for it's long-term viability. Take care not to press too hard. Unlike reviewer Keith, my battery compartment snapped very securely into place and appears to be just fine. The critical part of setup is getting the balance on the three axes as close to level as possible. Horizontal and front-to-back balance was achieved without a great deal of difficulty, but patience is required as it isn't done quickly. My difficulty occurred trying to balance the phone side-to-side, or the vertical alignment. At the time, I was using it with a protective, soft rubber case. After a frustrating 10 minutes of pushing it back and forth without success, I pulled the case off and tried again. Bingo! That case was my problem. Now, a hard case would probably not be as much of an issue, but I'll leave that for someone else to mention. When I turned it on I found it to be stable and balanced, just as the manual said it would be. I have only been playing with it for a day and will need practice to become proficient in making it do my bidding, but I am very impressed by what I am seeing. A couple of additional observations. I find this very helpful for removing shake when using the phone in the photo mode as it can extend your handheld time in lower light with less blurring due to a slower shutter speed. Lastly, watching the video provided by Tiffen was helpful, but I would also recommend checking out other videos on YouTube as well.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I would buy it again but with lower expectations Seems like a great product, I haven't fully put it through its paces yet. Comments so far are: The unit fits many deifferent sizes of phones quite well (tried iPhone 6+ & 7). The batteries don't fit snugly in the battery compartment and cheapen the impression. This is a potential point of failure in the future with the extra movement. The charger is an external USB battery holder, not part of the unit, which gives you something to misplace in the future. The interface between the micro USB (that's a plus that it's micro USB) and the holder wasn't as solid as it could be. The instructions on getting started could be a little more complete. All in all I think it's a good unit, just not great. Given the price pojnt you are getting what you have paid for however it does look like it's been thrown together in China. I just expected more from the makers of the main mobile camera equipment for the industry.
