A super wide rectilinear lens for Micro Four Thirds, the black Laowa 7.5mm f/2 MFT from Venus Optics is a compact and versatile prime that is well-suited to astrophotography and other wide-angle subjects. Beyond its small form factor, this lens also features a notable optical design that incorporates two aspherical elements and three extra-low dispersion elements to control distortion and aberrations for improved clarity and sharpness. A Frog Eye Coating has also been applied to the front element to guard against water and dust, and the lens's manual focus design permits working with subjects as close 4.7" away.

Venus Optics Laowa 7.5mm f/2 Reviews
Laowa 7.5mmF2 M4/3
Great lens with great optics, even at F2. Looks like toy lens even on M4/3 body but makes it nice to transport. M Focus doesn't bother me as I have done this for many years with MF and 35mm Nikon film lenses. AND don't forget great service from B&H.
Great Wide Angle Lens with 110 Degree View Angle
I’m not a professional photographer but have spent a considerable amount of time taking time lapse sequences of sunrises and sunsets. The Venus Optics Laowa 7.5 f/2 MFT lens is ideal for this type of filming with its 110 degree angle of view. True, it is a manual lens with limited capabilities but I am pleased with the clarity and sharpness especially around the edges with minimal aberrations and distortions which are typical with lower end wide angle lenses. I have used the lens on a BMPCC and Z Cam E1 with acceptable results on both cameras with no edge cropping. It may be a slightly pricey for being a manual lens, but for my use it works quite well. With B&H’s excellent return policy, I would definitely say to give the lens a try and if it doesn’t suit your needs or critique, return it.
Great Product !
Great Product !
Love this lens.
I use this for both video and still photography. Slight barrel distortion, but nothing excessive. Be prepared to manually focus, but at 7.5mm, the DOF makes this easy. Set it at hyperfocal distance, and you are pretty much good to go. It does look like a toy on my Lumix GH5, but produces good results.
Astrophotography
I bought the lens for astrophotography. it is the widest and fastest lens for MFT. After I used it, it's really Does the work sharp and bright.
Lens is soft, looks gimmicky on GH5 and support is terrible
1. This is lens get very soft at from F/4 down to F/2 on my GH5 2. If you plan to use it on GH5 is looks gimmicky at best, don't take this on professional job or set. 3. My focus ring started slipping at last 1/4 turn (go figure), I reached out to Laowa twice using their support email address [email protected] and nobody has responded yet, even though lens had 3 year warranty. I would stay away from this lens and terrible support.
Great lens
I am not a big reviewer or a pro, but this lens is terrific. I have had it for about 6 months. Yes it is a manual aperture and focus, but it is easy to use because of its wide angle nature. My test for a lenses is really how much it stays on my camera, which is mostly based on ergonomics and the quality of photos. I find myself using this lens a lot. I love nature pics, but I also like to incorporate my family in them (vacation pics). For reference, m current lens and camera stable includes: EM1ii, EM5ii, pro 12-40 (good), pro 40-150 (great), pro 300 (good), 45mm 1.8mm (great), Panasonic 20mm (good) and 14-150mm (good). This lens is fun, small, light, sharp, and takes amazing quality photos. I love the way it renders colors. It has its own personality. The only negative is it is not rated as water resistant. For $500 and on the Olympus platform it should be in my opinion.
Just as Expected
Just got this lens, and I am very pleased with its performance, It does take some time to learn how to use it properly. I based my purchase on You Tube reviews and reading reviews online, No regrets, So Far.
