Venus Optics 7.5mm f/2.0 overview

  • 1Description

Developed for aerial photography applications, the black ultra-light version of the Laowa 7.5mm f/2 MFT is a super wide rectilinear lens for Micro Four Thirds Cameras. Compared to the standard version of this lens, this reduced-weight edition is 20g lighter, making it well-suited for use with drones and gimbals. Aside from its lightweight design, the wide focal length and bright f/2 maximum aperture are also ideal for astrophotography applications, and its optical design incorporates two aspherical elements and three extra-low dispersion elements to control distortion and aberrations for improved clarity and sharpness. A Frog Eye Coating has also been applied to the front element to guard against water and dust, and the lens's manual focus design permits working with subjects as close 4.7" away.

Ultra wide-angle prime is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and provides a 15mm equivalent focal length.
This lightweight version of the lens weighs 20g less than the standard version, making it better suited for aerial/drone photography. It shares the same optical design and metallic build quality, however some of the parts have been redesigned and replaced in order to reduce the overall weight.
Bright f/2 maximum aperture benefits working in dark and difficult lighting conditions.
Rectilinear design renders scenes with straight vertical lines and minimal distortion for a more realistic portrayal.
Two aspherical elements and three extra-low dispersion elements are featured to minimize spherical and chromatic aberrations for sharper, clearer, and more color-accurate imagery.
Frog Eye Coating has been applied to the front element to help repel water and dust.
Manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 4.7" away.
Accepts 46mm screw-in filters and a petal-shaped lens hood is also included.

    Venus Optics 7.5mm f/2.0 reviews

Laowa 7.5mm f/2 MFT Lens for Micro Four Thirds (Ultra-Light Version, Black) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A fast, ultra wide prime at an affordable price with quality This rectilinear ultra wide fast lens is incredibly sharp with very little distortion. I use this lens on GH5 with 3-axis gimbal for aerial video in training. It's light weight and very well build, except for the lens cover. The lens cover is very difficult to attach or remove. To overcome this problem, I add a ND filter to add depth to mount or remove the lens cap with the lens hood on. Since this is a manual lens, I use f/5.6 to f/8 with infinity focal length to keep the image in focus with the camera at 20 feet above ground. It is my first PRC made lens. It's quality blows me away! I will definitely consider other Laowa lens in future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly recommended Wow. What a lens! Like most people, a zoom lens lives on my camera. My everyday lens is a 12-60mm MFT. I can carry this small 7.5mm lens in my pocket. (It only weighs 5 ounces.) It is great for shooting architecture and artistic shots that have a significant object in the foreground and a full landscape in the background. It was the perfect lens for shooting real estate in confined spaces (and making the space look large. Its sharp with good contrast. I use it mostly at f/5.6 which is within sweet spot. (Reviewers like the lens from f/2.8 through f/8.) As a manual focus at f/5.6 its easy to set it hyperlocal (near infinity) and forget focusing and just shoot. Light weight, well built, easy to us, great results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than expected I purchased an Olympus 9-18 and Rokinon 7.5/3.5 fisheye for my main wide angle needs as I wanted small and light lenses. Their aperture speeds were too low for low light action so I decided to give this lens a try. My copy has consistent and decently sharp corners even wide open. Focus ring rotates smoothly. Feels like a quality item in use. Images are really nice if you take the time to use RAW and correct for the vignetting, and purple fringing wide open. This lens is incredibly portable! The F2.0 aperture opens up opportunities my other lenses (and F2.8 lenses) don’t allow for me. If you need small and fast aperture, this sharp lens can really open up some nice ultrawide shots for you. I highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little lens, fantastic results This a great little lens, very light (only 5 oz) and very well built. I am using it on my GH3 and having fantastic results. Highly recommend for landscape and aerial photographer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Inspire 2 Drone Lens It?s like it?s made for the Inspire 2X5s camera. Perfect balance right out of the box using lens hood. No hot swapping lens necessary (on my setup). Using with Crystalsky 7.85 monitor. It?s so wide using higher frame rates (narrower FOV with Inspire 2) is still plenty wide. Also focus peaking works fine with it. It is manual focus only of course using the focus ring on the lens. When focused at infinity everything past 5 feet is in focus. Photos with DNG work fine. I hear movie recording to SSD does not work, but I don?t use that for my footage so can?t confirm. Movie recording to micro SD card works fine. It is just awesome to have such a wide option. Keep in mind this lens is not officially supported by DJI. Very happy with purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome lens! This lens is fantastic! It's sharp and shoots super wide. I use it on my Inspire 2 to shoot houses when I am in tight situations. I won't fly over other peoples property, to get the shots I need, so this lens allows me to get shots I would otherwise not get. It can't be focused from the controller, so I set the focus on infinity before taking off. I highly recommend this lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Inspire 2 X5S Drone Phenomenal lens for the Inspire 2. Be sure to start your drone with an approved lens, and then swap the Laowa 7.5mm on. That will ensure you have full features of the gimbal and drone with this manual lens. Very sharp and great focus. Slight lens distortion when panning straight up or down. Better to keep the camera gimbal fixed and just rotate the drone than the gimbal.
