Venus Optics Laowa 7.5mm f/2 Overview

Developed for aerial photography applications, the silver ultralight version of the Laowa 7.5mm f/2 MFT is a super-wide rectilinear lens for Micro Four Thirds Cameras. Compared to the standard version of this lens, this reduced-weight edition is 20g lighter, making it well-suited for use with drones and gimbals. A Frog Eye Coating has also been applied to the front element to guard against water and dust, and the lens's manual focus design permits working with subjects as close 4.7" away.

Ultra wide-angle prime is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and provides a 15mm equivalent focal length.
This lightweight version of the lens weighs 20g less than the standard version, making it better suited for aerial/drone photography. It shares the same optical design and metallic build quality, however some of the parts have been redesigned and replaced in order to reduce the overall weight.
Bright f/2 maximum aperture benefits working in dark and difficult lighting conditions.
Rectilinear design renders scenes with straight vertical lines and minimal distortion for a more realistic portrayal.
Two aspherical elements and three extra-low dispersion elements are featured to minimize spherical and chromatic aberrations for sharper, clearer, and more color-accurate imagery.
Frog Eye Coating has been applied to the front element to help repel water and dust.
Manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 4.7" away.
Accepts 46mm screw-in filters and a petal-shaped lens hood is also included.

If you use a GH5 is the image still sharp in the corners at f/2?
Asked by: Seth
If you are focusing on a flat plane parallel to your camera's sensor, and the subject at the corner of the image is at the focus distance set by the lens, then yes, the corner of the image should be in relatively sharp focus, though there may be some vignetting at f2.

Quick Question... Just purchased the Laowa 7.5mm F2.0 lens for landscape use on either my EM-1 MII or my EM-5 MII. Is it appropriate to set the camera mode to Manual, select shutter speed on the camera and then select aperture on the lens ring. Or, alternatively is is better to select camera mode to Program, and then select the desired aperture on the lens? For those that use this lens, what is considered routine or optimal practice for well to decently lit landscape photos?
Asked by: Larry
It does not matter which one you choose, it is all a matter of which you prefer using and what aspects of your photo you want to change.

If I put a standard size 46mm ND filter on it will it vignette or otherwise show the edges of the filter ring?
Asked by: Peter
You will be fine with a single ND filter. I would avoid stacking multiple filters.
