The dial works with color or intensity, it toggles between the 2 as well as using the remote.

If the batteries are finished and they are in the lamp and connect the lamp to the outlet, the batteries are charged while this is connected to the power, or it is necessary to charge them separately.
Sorry, I have never used the batteries.
