Strut STR-MP6 Overview

The STR-MP6 Custom-Fit Field Case for Sound Devices MixPre-6, from Strut, is a small-footprint, lightweight protective case that can be used for easy access to all MixPre-6 features. It has a removable rain top with a clear vinyl window that can also function as a sunshade or double as a travel cover.

In addition to the padded main compartment, the front padded pocket has eight clip-on points for wireless receivers, and is built to hold up to four wireless Sennheiser G3 or similar-sized receivers. This case can accommodate 4 and 8 x AA sleds, all L-Series sled options, plus NP-1, Remote Audio, and various USB-C type power options. The case features belt loop and harness attachment points for most audio harness systems, and includes an HAR-2 audio harness.

A very streamlined and versatile low-profile case. Check their native site for pictures and videos on all the possible configurations. Highly recommended if you don't need a ton of extra space one bag beyond essentials and you want to avoid the bulk of the other leading bag options. The only thing to be mindful of is that you shouldn't pull the velcro straps (that hold the MixPre in place) completely taught as the MixPre will sit too high up in the case - this will make it really difficult to manipulate the power switch and the headphone/encoder knob. Will be buying the stealth version for my MixPre-3.

The bag fits MixPre-6 like a glove and it's hooked in securely. You can open the bag from any side (mostly velcro everywhere, with zipper options on left and right sides) so it's easy to eg. adjust something that isn't in the front panel, do neat cabling, and change batteries / SD card without taking the MixPre out of the bag. There's also just a bit of storage space so you can fit eg. a medium size USB power bank and some accessories (maybe an extra pair of lavs and in-ears, a pair of miniature condensers with short cables?) to the front pocket. The greatest obvious thing compared to any of the other options is that this looks like a normal small black cordura bag. The colors, materials and branding don't shout I'm a sound bag like almost all the other options. Put on the flap and use Wingman, and you'll draw next to no attention while walking through busier spots. The only slight drawbacks I can think of so far: 1) Everything is secured / closed with velcro: on one hand it makes the bag super flexible as mentioned, on the other hand there's going to be a loud ripping sound whatever you want to open, and the cover / rain flap sometimes seems a bit fiddly on the move as it's attached with velcro from both ends, and hence completely removable. 2) Only comes with a body harness, not an adjustable shoulder strap. This was clearly indicated, so it's not a fault of manufacturer nor B&H, and I suppose location professionals would be happier with the harness. I had to borrow a strap from another bag for my stealth use.

Is there a cable pass through from the front ...

Is there a cable pass through from the front pocket to the main compartment to allow connecting to a MX-Hirose DC power input sled from a NP1 style battery?

Yes, there's a passthrough hole between the compartments. I have an USB battery there, and a cable via the passthrough to the unit. I haven't tried a Hirose setup, but I assume it would work as well.

The manufacturer has not provided the weight of the Strut STR-MP6 Custom-Fit Field Case by itself. The shipping weight (including the packaged case is listed as 0.75 lbs., which is 12 oz. (340.2 g).

How many Lectro 411A receivers can this case ...

How many Lectro 411A receivers can this case accomodate? Is there any way to 'hang' these receivers or do they have to lie in the compartment?

The reason we don't list the pocket size is that it's hard to measure a "soft case". That said, the front pocket (without deflection) is 4"H x 7"L x 2.5"D. So 2 pcs 411A would physically "fit". The issue is with wiring a receiver that has an XLR on the bottom. So the pocket is not designed as a proper fit for the 411A inside. You could clip 2x411A to the outside on the pocket wall, or we should talk about customization (a zipper on the bottom of the pocket) , then you could do more depending on BDS. -John at Strut

The Strut STR-MP6 is a custom-fit field case for the Sound Devices MixPre-6 and the dimensions of the MixPre-6 are 1.4 x 6.5 x 4.6" (36 x 166 x 118 mm). The dimensions of the Sound Devices 702 are 1.8 x 8.2 x 4.9” (45 x 209 x 125 mm) which is larger than the MixPre-6 on all sides, especially for the length across which is 1.7" longer. The 702 is not going to fit inside the STR-MP6 case. We do have other cases that will fit the 702, like the PortaBrace Audio Recorder Case for Sound Devices 702, 722, and 744 (B&H # POAR7B) and PortaBrace Audio Organizer Case (B&H # POAO15XB).

Would the front pocket accomodate zaxcom qrx recievers?

See answer above on Lectro 411A, similar issue, qrx wire from the bottom. You would be happier if we put a zipper on the bottom of the pocket for wiring. We do those kind of small customs for people all the time. Call. -John at Strut

I would think so. I think the mixpre6 is 1 inch wider than the 3.
