Quantum Instruments Turbo 3 Overview

For a portable power source for your speedlights, use the Turbo 3 Rechargeable Battery (European Plug) from Quantum Instruments. This battery works with most shoe-mount and handle-mount flashes, including all Quantum Qflash, T-series, and Trio/Pilot portable flashes. The Turbo 3 has the capacity to provide 1050 full-power flashes for shoe-mount speedlights and 750 flashes for handle-mount units.

The product offers two outlets so you can simultaneously power a digital camera and a flash, or two flashes. Cables are secured to the battery via locking sockets so you don't have to worry about a cable falling out while you are in the middle of shooting. Compatible cables for Nikon, Canon, and Qflash Trio are available and sold separately.

The Turbo 3 is equipped with four LED status indicators for checking how much power you have left. Recycling times vary from 1 to 1.9 seconds, and it takes about three hours to fully charge the unit with the included battery charger. The product weighs only 2 lb and can be carried around easily with the included belt clip.

Quantum Instruments Turbo 3 Reviews

Battery technology

Quantum has a good reputation. I have no experience using their products. But, I do have experience using devices powered by Nickel Metal Hydride batteries. Their latest line of power batteries utilize Nickel Metal Hydride formulation. While they're superior to Ni-Cds, they do have issues, one of which is keeping them conditioned. They must be used frequently, almost completely discharged, and then recharged so that the battery doesn't lose the ability to hold a charge or develop a memory effect. Lithium Ion batteries are far superior to Nickel Metal Hydride batteries as they don't seem to suffer the ill effects that befall Ni-Cds or Nickel Metal Hydride batteries.

Overpriced Garbage

When I purchased my first Quantum Flash Trio Kit, the battery for it died in less than 2 years. Because it was such a useful kit, I made the painful decision to purchase this battery as an upgraded replacement in hopes that it would last. It died in less than 3 years. I feel very ripped off after wasting more than $1,000 on two of these worthless batteries. Lesson to be taken away, Do not pay this outrageous price for a battery that does not offer a replaceable battery option. I know of two other brands that cost 1/7th of this overpriced garbage and actually have a swappable battery option.

question

Does it work with the Nikon D300 and the flash speed light sb-800? And which kind of cable I will need

Yes, the Turbo 3 is compatible with both the D300 and the SB800. For the D300, you will need the CD100 cable, and the SB800 will require the CKE cable.

Unfortunately, the Olympus FL900R lacks a high voltage input for an external battery, therefore it cannot be used with the Turbo 3.

question

I currently have 430EXll Cannon Speedlight, is the Turbo 3 Rechargeable Battery by Quantum campatable with this?
Asked by: Anonymous
Unfortunately, the Canon 430EX II is not compatible with the Quantum Turbo line of batteries. It is compatible with the QB1+ battery (B&H # QUQB1P), though. You would just need the MB5 (B&H # QUMB5). Otherwise, to use the Turbo batteries, you would need to upgrade flashes to the 580EX II or 600EX-RT.

Yes, the Quantum Instruments Turbo 3 Rechargeable Battery is compatible for use with the Canon 600EX-RT Speedlite Flash. You would need to purchase the Quantum Instruments CZ2 Power Cable for Turbo Series Power Packs, B&H # QUCZ2, to connect and power the Canon 600EX-RT Speedlite Flash from the Quantum Instruments Turbo 3 Rechargeable Battery.

question

Is there a cable to make this pack work with the Nikon sb700?
Asked by: Anonymous
Being that the Nikon SB-700 doesn't have a high voltage port, the Quantum Turbo 3 will not be compatible with it. A compatible battery and cable you can use is Quantum Instruments QB1 + (6V) Battery B&H # QUQB1P and the Quantum Instruments MKZ3 Dedicated Module, B&H # QUMKZ3. Please see the images below.
