Luxli Cello Overview

  • 1Description

The Luxli Cello 10" RGBAW LED Light offers a wide array of functionality inside a compact, camera-mountable form factor. Each of the 176 individual LEDs inside the panel can reproduce red, green, blue, or white. These color options can be mixed using three modes—white (or color temperature) mode, RGB mode, or filter mode.

While the intuitive LCD and knob controls are available on the back of the fixture, the Cello comes into its own when controlled via smartphone. Download the free conductor app for iOS or Android, and your phone can then pair with the Cello via Bluetooth for precise wireless control.

Use the included ball head to secure the Cello to your camera's accessory shoe. While the fixture is compact enough to fit atop a camera or camcorder, it can also be mounted to light stands for creative, off-camera lighting scenarios.

Operating Modes

RGB Color Mode
Scroll through the RGB color wheel in 1° increments. Dial in nearly any color in the visible spectrum.
CCT Mode
The traditional correlated color temperature (CCT) mode allows you to accurately adjust your color temperature from 3000 to 10,000K in 50K increments. This lets you emulate any lighting condition, from the cool hues of bright sunlight to the warmth of a tungsten bulb.
Gel Filter Mode
The gel filter mode is one of the new and innovative modes introduced with the Cello. Set your white balance and then select between 150 colored gels. The Cello displays the color, taking your CCT temperature setting into account. It's as realistic as if you're putting a gel in front of the actual light.

Accurate and Versatile RGBAW LED Panel
The highly accurate and incredibly versatile RGBAW LED panel opens up a whole new range of creative possibilities. CCT (correlated color temperature) mode is perfect for setting traditional lighting temperatures from 3000 to 10,000K, and the expansive RGB mode is ideal for producing nearly every hue in the visible spectrum.
Bicolor Phosphor LED
The white LEDs in the array are comprised of two types of diodes. The composite of their color temperatures furnishes superb color accuracy throughout the white color spectrum.
Intuitive On-Unit Interface with LCD Display
The built-in LCD display offers a simple and intuitive interface that you'll pick up immediately. Easily adjust brightness and color, and switch between the RGB, gel filter, and CCT modes with the touch of a button.
Conductor App
Install the Conductor app on your mobile device and explore incredible lighting effects. Illuminate your subject with any hue of light you can imagine. Create customized lighting animation effects. Use the eyedropper feature to match any color within an image or a video. Combine multiple Luxli Orchestra units and synchronize them to operate them at once.

    Luxli Cello Reviews

Cello 10- RGBAW LED Light is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Two Broken - make sure to test them right away! I bought two of these brand new from here - After about 5 min of using one it literally died. The lcd on the back worked but then if you tried to turn on the leds it would freeze and make a weird high pitch squeal and die. The other one lasted maybe 20 minutes before it did the same thing. Upgrading the firmware didn't help either. I'd have to say I wouldn't buy again even if it didn't die as I'm guessing they will easily break or die sooner than later or when you actually need them = reliability is important in such lights. The plastic is sort of thin and creaky too - so I'd expect it to crack over time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 150 High-Quality Colors in 1 fixture! I have the smaller Viola light and this is quite the upgrade!? The new fixture has 150 colors, shades and 100% dimming plus a way to change the light to color temperature for use as a regular LED.? If you are looking to get creative with gels, forget it and get this! I also can use the free phone app and bluetooth?to control the colors and intensity of the light. The smaller version has a diffusion filter system, I hope that in time they will offer one for this fixture, as an upgrade. Lastly the buttons and controls on this light are very intuitive, and I was able to turn it on (without reading a manual) and use it in LED mode or full color mode - after reading them I know now that it is way more powerful than other lights.? I think photographers and video centric?people will both love this fixture!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bought 2, one is broken I bought 2 of these lights from b&h in the summer of 2018 and at first I was very impressed by the quality of these lights. However, due to the nmature of my work I didnt have a serious use for them until recently, when I discoverd that one of them had a completely broken string of LEDS in it. I have MAYBE 3 hours of cumulative use on these lights, IF THAT even, and not AT ALL in harsh environments. Like the lights, but the QC doesnt seem very good. I have reached out to Luxli to see what their response will be. What they do next will determine if I continue to buy their products or tell people to run for the hills. We shall see...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The most versatile RBG LED Light in my kit The Luxli series are my favorite LED lights to have on set. I'm a big fan of the Luxli Viola and the Cello is essentially a 10" version of that light but with a few upgrades - mainly the filter mode which lets you apply a "digital" colored gel over on top of your CRT setting. I've used Luxli lights on so many different occasions - from event shooting, documentaries, music videos, short films, pretty much everything. The ability to dial in a consistent RGB color quickly and easily is so clutch. The Bluetooth Conductor app is solid and connects quickly and easily and the battery life is very impressive considering how bright the LED's can get. Overall, 2-3 Cello's can get you by on most small-medium sized shoots. Honestly my 1x1 bi-color LED kit with gels feels kind of antiquated compared to the Luxli lights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The MIGHTY small cello This is a most versatile backpack light you'll ever buy. I love that I can travel with it so easily yet its powerful enough and versatile enough for so many applications. 150 colors built in, saturation control, lighting FX via the phone app, and CRI 95 quality light. You'll be surprised how bright this light is. In certain cases this could even be a KEY light for an interview, with another one splashing color for the backlight. You can even load a video or photo into the app, and the light will match a color from the image perfectly with a dropper. I had a product shoot where we filmed a guitar pedal and the pedal had blue lettering and logo, I was able to pull the photo into the app and color match the blue in the image into the Cello. This light is a game changer! For the price and power, you'll get a ton of bang for your buck. It will definitely be traveling with me on every shoot!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little light. Just finished a a few projects (a photo shoot and a science fi short) and this light was the handiest thing. About a powerful as a 250 watt tungsten but much more versatile. Be aware it'll chew through batteries so turn it off when not needed (I love the feature that allows the light to be off but not lose the settings). Saving up my pennies to get the larger size!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for beginners Pros: - solid light - easy to operate (LCD on back and simple knobs) - flexible (many different customizations like CCT with fine grained control) - app for remote control (of multiple devices too) - bright! - built in gels! (and beautiful color controls) Cons: - iOS app is a bit rough around the edges - no user manual for app - app doesn't show the state of the light (not entirely) as it was only designed to change the settings (think of a remote knob) and not meant to read and show you the values of settings on a light - at times I have trouble with multiple lights in the app - firmware update was confusing, the process didn't go as documented on the luxli site but I got it to work... also the firmware update instructions were not posted on the Cello download page, I had to use the instructions on the Viola download page (maybe this is why things didn't go as the instructions said they would)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant Color, Small Package A little bit of background: I stumbled upon Luxli at NAB 2017 randomly walking around the B&H booth. I was instantly intrigued with the Luxli Viola light they were introducing. A 5" on camera LED with RGB color all controlled via app. They had my money before I even left the showroom floor. I carried the light on every shoot (photo & video) and was able to get some really amazing images using it. Fast forward to this year and I discovered a vastly upgraded 10" version, the Cello. Everything I loved about the Viola has been improved upon in this version. I love the addition of the LCD screen on the back and the fact that I can now choose between 150 colored gels instead of just guessing what color I'm using is a game changer. I've been producing a web series for the past 2 months and we are using this in conjunction with the Viola on every shoot. I only have two real issues with the system. The app could be a little more user friendly and intuitive. It's not overly complex but It took me finding a YouTube video to know exactly what everything did. I hope a redesign of the app will be in the works. The battery charger that comes with it really doesn't give any indication on where you are in the charging process. It's either charging or charged. It's a really small thing and not an issue if you have other NP-F chargers (which I do). Also there isn't a diffusion filter available for the Cello (like the one for the Viola) but I'm sure that it is coming down the pipe soon. All in all I'm in love with the Cello. As a person who likes to use color a lot in my work it really has been an invaluable tool. It's an amazing light with a bunch of creative possibilities.

does https://Softbox attach and hold on the Cello? Or are there other third-party soft boxes with grid options that could work?
    Asked by: Salim
Unfortunately, the Angler Collapsible Softbox for 6x12 LED Lights B&H # ANLCSB1206 is too large to fit the Luxli Cello 10 LED Light nor are there any available softboxes for it at this time.

Which DC adapter would you recommend for this. Especially one with 110-220V range?
    Asked by: Salim
We recommend the Fujia Appliance 12V AC Power Supply with this light, B&H # FUACADPTR12V. It is Multi-Voltage and rated at 110-240 VAC Input.

At what color temperature the CRI was measured? 3200k, 5600K or both? The Viola, based on one youtube tester, showed a 95+ CRI at 3200k, but by 5600K it was around CRI of 85. I'm hoping the Cello's new LED have a better CRI at 5600K
    Asked by: Salim
it should. it is RGBAW - amber white. the previous model was just RGBA so it achieved 5600k by mixing colors. The new cello has a dedicated White light.

Can this be set not a tripod and synced with the camera with a cord?
    Asked by: Anonymous
There is a Luxli App for Iphone (not sure about other phones) that adjust the light via bluetooth for colors and intensities which is very handy. I have had some inconsistent problems with being able to turn the light on sometimes and not sure if it is a connection problem I have with the battery or not. The light is very versatile when working well and the daylight balancing is wonderful for many applications.
