WD Duo External HDD Overview

The WD My Book Duo 20TB 2-Bay USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 RAID Array features two 3.5" drive bays that each sport a 10TB hard drive to provide a total capacity of 20TB. WD has configured the drives in RAID 0 and lets you reconfigure them in RAID 1 or JBOD, using the included WD Drive Utilities software program. The My Book Duo comes with a USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port, plus a USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB-A cable.

Other notable features include a 2-port USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 hub, which expands the host system's connections, and AES 256-bit hardware encryption that helps prevent unauthorized access to sensitive data. In addition, the My Book Duo is pre-formatted in NTFS for Windows systems and requires a reformat for use with Mac.

A hard drive's performance is best measured by data throughput and usually measured in gigabytes (or gigabits) per second. Data throughput is directly related to how densely data is packed on the hard drive (areal density) and the speed at which the platters rotate (RPM). Comparing the performance and read/write speeds between two hard disk drives that have identical areal density specifications (BPI or bits per inch, and TPI, or tracks per inch), a 7200 RPM drive will deliver data about 33% faster than the 5400 RPM drive.

These are WD red drive NOT Red Pro dives which would be 7200RPM. These drives are 5400RPM.

Can I remove Raid 0 hard drives from this array without losing data? And keep it as back up then reuse later whenever I want?

The only way to remove a RAID 0 array while keeping the data intact is to remove both of the drives together, and then when you want to access the data again, both drives would need to be placed back inside together. This however is not recommended.

I have 2x10TB RAID 0 on my WD book and its full now. I would like to replace another 2x10TB to continue using. Is it possible? if Yes. Will my first 2x10TB RAID drive lose any data once I plug back into enclosure?

If you remove both drives at the same time and put them back in at the same time, no data will be lost when you put them back inside the enclosure, however we do not recommend using an array this way.

In RAID-0, can a single drive letter include the whole 28TB, with the device seamlessly managing the whole device?

Yes, that is exactly how a RAID 0 volume would behave. You would never see both drives unless you set it up in JBOD (non-raid) where you would then have 2 drives independent from each other.
