WD Duo External HDD Reviews

Why are all large storage solutions garbage?

Was really crossing my fingers that the two of these I bought would make for a solid storage solution. They are fickle, they often stop reading in finder, freeze up, and I then have to deal with trying to get them back online. I have two of them and have tried different formats and everything else I can think of to keep them reliably accessible. Really unsatisfied.

A great way to back up all of my photos!

I love how easy it was to set this up for my Mac and use it as a way to back up all of my wildlife photographs.

In RAID-0, can a single drive letter include the whole 28TB, with the device seamlessly managing the whole device?
Asked by: Timothy
Yes, that is exactly how a RAID 0 volume would behave. You would never see both drives unless you set it up in JBOD (non-raid) where you would then have 2 drives independent from each other.

question

Can I replace these 2 red drive to 10 TB gold ? will it inrease my read/write speed ?
Asked by: Oudom R.
A hard drive's performance is best measured by data throughput and usually measured in gigabytes (or gigabits) per second. Data throughput is directly related to how densely data is packed on the hard drive (areal density) and the speed at which the platters rotate (RPM). Comparing the performance and read/write speeds between two hard disk drives that have identical areal density specifications (BPI or bits per inch, and TPI, or tracks per inch), a 7200 RPM drive will deliver data about 33% faster than the 5400 RPM drive.

I would like to use this for HD and 4k video editing. I would also like to use them as back up storage. My current external WD HDs are really slow with copying videos and editing. How fast are thesea and are they sufficient for video editing?
Asked by: Nathian
With speeds of up to 360MB/s these would be on the slow side for editing 4k video.
