I love this device. We needed a simple capture device that would work with 4k on Riverside and this worked simply and easily. Hassle free setup.

A simple plug and play capture device. The magewell SDI 4K works exactly as intended. While it is actually a plug and play device I would highly recommend downloading the interface control and capture software because they have some pretty nifty controls, this little guy even supports NDI bridge. I got one for some basic recording off a 4k BM camera but it worked so well sent it to a client for their new livestream setup as an input point off their main mixer video mixer. I’m definitely planning on purchasing another one to send out with a camera fly pack since it works so well! If there was one thing I’d gripe on it about I’d say the “proprietary USB 3 A to A cable” is is only week point. I wish they went with a different format so young wouldn’t be up the creek if it got lost or damaged. That’s the only drawback for me but very easy to solve. A normal person might have some difficulty getting a replacement if they didn’t know where to look. (On BandH) of course!

Fantastic so far - Accepts signal on the first try!

I love this capture card so far. My favorite part is the fact that you can just plug it in and pull up signal. I do not have to match the exact frame rate and size in Wirecast in order to see signal at all like the Blackmagic Ultra Studio Express Capture cards. One tip I learned from hands on experience streaming corporate video is to put this on a separate USB bus so it has enough bandwidth to work. I have been adapting the custom USB type a that is provided with an adapter cable that goes to USB type C so it's on it's own bus and works super smooth with my laptop ; ) Happy streaming!

Super easy install

Its absurd how easy this was to install. Plugged it in and it worked. Drivers download and install automatically which is important because I needed to put this on a clients computer to feed a WebEx broadcast.  On my own system, I can confirm the 4K signal looks good and is certainly overkill for my purposes.

Does not work with 3G - 1080-5994P

Have several of these Magewell units - my engineers tested them all - they did not work with a BlackMagic ATEM Constellation switcher outputting 1080-5994P (3G) - would only work with 1080-2997p. I would recommend using AVio SDI USB interfaces - MUCH more reliable and true to specs.

Very robust

question

Could I use this devise to record video a black magic ursa pro? Bypassing CFast and the SD cards?
Asked by: Greg
You can record video from Blackmagic Design URSA Mini Pro via the USB Capture SDI 4K Plus. Just know that while the device supports SD/HD/3Ga/3Gb/3Ga-DL/3Gb-DS/6G (SMPTE 2081), it does not support 12G SDI.

Can I use this to output from the BMPCC4K to a 4K switcher?
Asked by: Michael
Not if you intend on sending a 4K signal. The 4K on the BMPCC camera is only internal... the output of the camera is HD only.

question

Can this capture 4k raw from Sony's FS5 into Wirecast and into a Atomos Inferno ?
Asked by: matt
More than likely this product will not be able to process the RAW 4K signal that comes out of the FS5 with RAW Upgrade. We are not aware of an option for a capture device that will process the RAW signal and bring it in to Wirecast. Your best bet will be to do this through the FS5's HDMI output, which is 4K as well. The HDMI Model of this product is B&H # MA32090 and would be a better choice.https://bhpho.to/2fJBh1v

Is there a replacement cable or model number for the USB cable? Or is only purchasable with the Magewell unit?
Asked by: Joe
The USB cable that works with the Magewell USB Capture SDI 4K Plus is a standard USB 3.0 cable. We can recommend B&H#PEUSB3AMAM3 or any other desired lengths.

question

It says in the overview: Capture analog audio via 3.5mm unbalanced Line in jack. So if I have a PTZ Cam that has video only from it's SDI output that I can capture audio from an analog source simultaneously and this device will embed the audio with the captured video?
Asked by: Tim
The answer is yes. you can capture video and audio from different source and it will combine during stream.
