Portable and powerful, the Solix LED Light, which is available here as a Compact Kit from Westcott, will create a continuous light that will appeal to photographers and videographers who often find themselves on the move. The daylight-balanced 5600K fixture boasts an output of 2100 lux at 3.3' with a wide beam angle of 120 degrees, accurate color, a CRI of 96 and a TLCI of 97. Also, for speed and ease of use the Solix features an integrated, rotatable speed ring that directly accepts many softboxes and octaboxes up to 4.5 lb.

The durable housing features a control dial and display for adjusting the power output of the light, which is flicker-free all the way up to 960 fps. The light also features a D-tap connection for either AC or DC power and draws just 60W, even with an impressive output of 2100 lux at 3.3'. It comes with removable barndoors and a frosted diffusion cap for added control over light quality. These are mounted via an all-metal magnetic ring for quick attachment and removal. A Tether Tools PowerStrap is bundled in as well for securing the power supply directly to a stand. Additionally, it has a built-in tilting bracket with 5/8" receiver and umbrella receptacle for mounting to a stand and comes with a case.

    Westcott Solix reviews

Solix LED Light Compact Kit is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Higher Expectations I bought this kit in hopes to replace my current TD6 from Westcott and to go LED and get away from all the lamps but the output is just not the same. It visually seems brighter but when I put my soft box on it it reduces the output to much to be useable. I just don't think it's designed to work well with a soft box. I like the size and the case is really nice. The plastic feels cheap - especially for the price point. I feel is it was priced about half of where it is at - it would be an okay light but there are many other products out there for much less that do the same thing. I was hopeful a softbox would be useable but it's not.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just ok - not worth the cost I bought this with the hopes that it would replace some of my panel LEDs and provide more flexibility but it's just not bright enough. The Pros - Color quality is good. Size is relatively compact. Case is nice. The Cons - Built in adapter ring is bulky, output power is weak, shell is plastic and need $300 battery pack that is bulky to run it (hangs from stand). Once you put a soft box on it - it's not enough light to do anything with. I find myself going back to my flat panel that takes the sony battery. Same output, thinner, easier to work with.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from waste of money bought to take on location for video interviews and use in combination with existing soft box. Put a soft box on it and not enough light to make it usable. Don't believe other post. Sounds like a company sales pitch. Do not recommend. Over priced sub par product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brighter than I expected This light was actually brighter than I expected. I took a few test portraits and I was getting a proper exposure at f/4, 1/100, ISO200 with the light about 4ft away, in a softbox (without the included diffusion dome)… at 55 percent power. At that light level, I have plenty of room to open the lens, bump up the ISO or increase the light’s intensity. And if I really wanted to, I could take the baffle out of the softbox and still have a nice, soft light. So no complaints there. The softbox I use is a LumoPro and it fits into the speedring without issue. The integrated speedring is actually one of my favorite features. By having it built in to the light, that’s one less thing I need to worry about buying or fitting into a case when traveling. The travel case is a really nice bonus, too. The housing is made of plastic, but it feels like a pretty thick plastic, so I don’t anticipate any issues with durability. Other than that, it has the same great color quality I’ve seen in other Westcott LED lights I’ve used. No real complaints here. I will primarily use the Solix in a softbox for portraits and video interviews.
