A REALLY classic retro look case for a Canon SX730 Camera
If you have any memory of an Argus C3 with a leather case - welcome back to 1947! The protection of this case for the camera is good - the upper 2 corners are exposed to the side if it is out in blowing rain. It includes a good leather "shoulder" strap - which I use around the neck - with holding points on Both side edges of the camera for making the camera horizontally held so its extra handy for quick access and more spontaneous shots than the original provision for the camera of a single wrist sling on one side of the camera. It surprisingly will not fit on a Canon SX700. My ESTIMATE is that it would likely fit on SX720 and 740. I have it on a 730. The case mounts to the camera via the standard 1/4" x 20 screw mount on the bottom. The mounting screw they use is special - the Head of the screw is tapped to accept another screw of the same thread. You can still use a tripod and mount the camera with the case on! There are 2 snaps holding the top part to the bottom part. The bottom part is screwed into the camera via the 1/4"-20 screw and two side strap holders with brass hoops and a leather shoulder strap and fasteners. The bottom part also has the 2 snaps, male, to fasten the top part on. These fasteners, like the strap hoops and the 1/4-20 mounting screw are dark brass plated. They are steel and magnetically active except the 2 snap fasteners are not. The strap length - from the mid height of the camera at the sides is adjustable from 36 to 42 1/2 inches. I keep mine at the shortest so the camera hangs around my neck on the chest with possible backpack on and ready for pictures. - The camera that takes the pictures is the one that is OUT and ready! The slack from the unused length of black polyester 1/2" strap at the ends I have double-sided taped up the leather part of the strap. You can't quite get rain protection DURING pix taking the way the top part, when partly open at the front, tends to get in the way of the lens. (The edgemost snap fastened). It does reasonably cover the camera from rain otherwise - except blowing rain. The downer when using the case this way is that with the top part only part-way open - still covering the top of the camera, there is some obscuring of the flash when deployed, also, you have to tuck your fingers under the case to push the shutter button, this is not so bad - but with the top covering the upper surface this way it COVERS THE VIEW SCREEN for framing the picture. In order to see the screen you must fold the top part completely back over the camera (with the center-most fastener disconnected) - exposing most of it (to rain), or unsnapping and removing the top part from the bottom part entirely - with both snap fasteners disconnected. For the Photos - this IS a Canon SX730 - modified at the lens front to accept a polarizer lens - which DOES fit with the case on and closed.
Good protection, awkward usage
Love the padding and the snug fit of the case. Also love that it screws on to the camera, feels very secure. However, the snap-on-flap is impractical for usage as it either doesn't hang out of the way or comes off completely and needs to be stored.
