Can I use this converter with the HDMI connection of my Macbook Pro? Will I be limited to mirroring my own display or can I use that converter to stream a second SDI monitor?
This will not work on Macbooks if you are going to a drop frame format. 23.976, 29.97, or 59.94. Macbooks can only output 24, 30, and 60 and since this unit doesn't convert it wont work with those formats.

No, the analog audio ports are inputs only. When using the Blackmagic Design HDMI to SDI 6G Mini Converter, use the HDMI DE-embedder below for HDMI sources. Also, if you want to use the converter and output via SDI, you can convert using the Blackmagic SDI to Audio Mini converter.
