Can I use this converter with the HDMI connection ...
Can I use this converter with the HDMI connection of my Macbook Pro? Will I be limited to mirroring my own display or can I use that converter to stream a second SDI monitor?
This will not work on Macbooks if you are going to a drop frame format. 23.976, 29.97, or 59.94. Macbooks can only output 24, 30, and 60 and since this unit doesn't convert it wont work with those formats.

I am wanting to connect a 2013 iMac to a ATEM ...
I am wanting to connect a 2013 iMac to a ATEM Television Studio Pro 4K. Would this Converter work if I used Mini DisplayPort to HDMI from the iMac, to the HDMI in on this Converter, and then passed SDI to the Switcher?

I don't have the switcher, but I do have the Blackmagic HDMI-SDI 6g, and an atomos shogun inferno, and a 2012 MacMini.
I was able to see output from the Mac Mini at 1080p, but did not see any choices for higher resolution. I'm not sure that you can even pass 4:2:0 2160 signal at 30fps over a 3g input Blackmagic does make an admittedly more expensive HDMI - SDI convert to pass full UHD, BH #BLTRMHDMISDI • MFR #CONVNTRM/AB/HSDI (the Blackmagic Design Teranex Mini HDMI to SDI 12G Converter).
I'm not a B&H employee, but they have a very reasonable return policy; you could ask if they wuold let you try the cheaper one, and if it didn't work, exchange it with more $$ for the faster one.
