- 30 to 50' Maximum Range
- For Omnidirectional Lavalier Mics
- Rejects Sound from Sides and Behind Mic
The Sound Shark by Klover SS1 is a long-range microphone dish designed to enable your lavalier microphone to capture audio from a maximum distance of thirty to fifty feet. In conjunction with an omnidirectional lav mic (available separately), you can use this parabolic collector for weddings, sporting events, birdwatching, and more. It can also be used to pick up sound for ENG, EFP, or as an alternative to a shotgun mic for film and television production. The parabolic dish design focuses sound energy from a large area onto the lavalier, while rejecting unwanted ambient noise from the sides and back of the mic. Its 1/4"-20 threaded mounting hole allows easy attachment to a light stand or monopod.

Is this for use with a single lav or could a stereo setup be achieved?
The Sound Shark SS1 Long-Range Dish for Lavalier Mics is meant for use with a single microphone. Dishes of this type are directional in nature and would not produce an accurate stereo image with dual microphones mounted within.

Will this work better with a cardioid lav or an omni lav?
Our Sound Shark (and KLOVER MiK 09) are designed for omnidirectional microphones but a "true" (wider pattern) cardioid will work. With a cardioid microphone you will have slightly lower amplification as the signal from the outer portion of the collector dish will have a lower signal level from the microphone. Super cardioid and hyper cardioid will lose significantly more signal strength.
Some people have used cardioid mics with good success but the products were designed for an omni-directional mic.
