Robust Construction
  • Regardless of the conditions or terrain in the field Vantage-series tripods boast features that will benefit pros and amateurs alike, both in the studio and on location. RC-5570 extends to over 70 inches high, and will comfortably support up to 55 pounds of gear.
  • Heavyweight rubber sleeves on two legs provide a secure, comfortable and balanced grip under any weather conditions.
  • Designed and built to operate in the harshest of environments, Vantage series tripods stand up to daily use and abuse, providing reliable performance. Made of premium materials, they resist corrosion and grime that would cause other tripods to fail.
Carbon Fiber Legs and Twist Lock Leg Joints
  • At the heart of Robus tripods are the extremely sturdy 10× carbon-fiber tubes that provides a maximum load of 55 pounds, which is enough to support a heavy camera setup with a level of stability that dampens vibrations to reduce camera shake.
  • Large, ergonomic twist lock joints open with a quarter turn to extend to a maximum height of 70.1" or collapse the leg sections quickly.
Aluminum Spider and Interchangeable Top Plates
  • The CNC-machined spider features a lock to loosen the yoke, and a safety pull latch to release the top plate. The anodized spider also features a strap mount and an integrated bubble level for precise leveling.
  • A precision-machined top plate features a smooth anodized finish, a chamfered leading edge for ease of installation, and a 3/8"-16 threaded head mount. It includes a ballast hook to add a stabilizing counterweight in windy conditions, or when working with a top-heavy load.
  • The 75mm bowl is interchangeable with the top plate and mounts into the spider using the same safety pull latch release mechanism, making it possible to change from shooting still to video in just seconds.
All Surface Capable, Multiple Locking Leg Angles
  • Three variable leg angles of 25, 55, and 85° with independent leg spread accommodates uneven terrain, and allows you to shoot at a minimum height of 4".
  • Three different sets of feet are available to accommodate different terrains and surfaces. The standard rubber feet, wide rubber feet, and spikes are all interchangeable via the 3/8"-16 socket at the end of each leg.

Okay - so I’ve had this tripod for about two years now and have to say I love it as much now as I did when I first unwrapped it. The ONLY thing I’ve found Robus can could improve (that can be a bit annoying, but for me not enough to hurt the star rating) is a bit paradoxical. The weight is fantastic - it’s a steady beast that will support anything I own (sorry, folks but you can’t complain about something advertised.. kind of annoying reading these reviews with folks whining about what was listed in the specs.. if you wanted a lighter tripod with the same general specs, you could have found another fitting your needs...). However, I don’t think Robus realized that same weight benefit would cause whichever leg you held to open when you don’t want it to.. that’s the only drawback. The leg head hinges aren’t stiff enough to support the tripod weight.. so when walking, holding one of the legs with the tripod horizontally, inevitably the leg I’m holding will slowly open. But it’s not a deal breaker. It’s a quirk. This tripod has NEVER failed me regardless of the conditions. I care about absolute reliable field performance; I don’t want to have to worry a whit about something thats sole purpose is to provide stability. Beyond it being utterly stable and have adequate height. I don’t want to worry about if it might be too fragile for something, won’t support my gear, have serious design flaws I have to worry about - nothing. It meets all the requirements: it’s tall, incredibly stable, durable, no design flaws significant enough to worry about.. it’s nearly perfect and SIGNIFICANTLY less expensive than a Gitzo, RRS, or Feisol. I do recommend you purchase some rock claws and longer spikes though to really take advantage of the tripod strengths. In fact, overall, I love this tripod so much, I purchased the RCC-5560 as a hiking companion (no, not the lightest out there but for me, again, perfect).. I purchased the column extension with it. It is good to have but honestly, I haven’t used it yet (I primarily shoot landscapes). Again - good to have if you find yourself on a steep slope and need a touch more reach with your tripod, but I have yet to use it. This tripod is rock solid. I use it primarily with a Kirk TLB-1 leveler and Acratech panoramic head. I would not change anything about this setup. Far less expensive than a Gitzo or RRS setup which for the money only offer MARGINAL gains over the less expensive Robus setup.. marginal enough that I really can’t tell the difference in performance. The Gitzo and RRS tripods you’re paying for the name.. the Robus, you’re paying for solid field performance. It’s built for the field. So,READ THE SPECS. If it is aligned with your needs, don’t give it a second thought and buy it. You won’t regret it one tiny bit. If you’re honestly just looking to impress others with name brand recognition, keep looking. This is a professional photographer’s serious working tripod. It’s a solid tool built for the field and easy to maintain. If driving, I don’t go anywhere without it. It’s my primary kit.

I had to find a "packable" but solid alternative to my collection of tripods for an upcoming trip (Eclipse Cruise in August). After some research, this one fit in the bag and the budget, so I bought it not expecting much more than that. Boy was I wrong! This bad boy is SOLID, LIGHT and a SMOOTH OPERATOR. Even before discovering the >2< sets of additional feet and the lovely features of the bag, I was in love. Goes from 4" to 64" (without center column!) and fits in a 24.5" tall bag; what's not to love?

Do I need to purchase a center column or can I mount my ball head directly to the legs? Thanks.

A center column is not needed but the column would make it easier/faster to raise and lower the camera height. This would be the optional center column: https://bhpho.to/3BJzGRQ. The BH-55 head can be attached to both the tripod or the optional center column.

One of the reviewers, Shawn, stated, "Had to order the center column later as I could not rotate my camera to vertical in my BH 55 because it would hit the sides of the tripod." He doesn't say what camera he's using. Has anyone using a Nikon D810 in conjunction with the Robus RC-5570 had this problem?

The easiest solution would be to get a dedicated L-Bracket for your D810 and you shouldn't have any issues.

This site says the weight of the 5570 Vantage Series 3 is 5.6 pounds. But what is the weight of the taller 8860 and the 8880 ?

The 8860 is shorter than the 5570 but it weighs 6.3 pounds. The 8880 is the tallest and weighs 6.5 pounds.
